I got the "china" version. bought from HK for S$36. Grace photolab carries it and i think it's going for about S$30. Can support S2Pro + Mid Zoom Lens + Ball Head.

The China Made one are not exactly the same as the original Gorillapod, they are somehow less "stiff" and the joints are "looser". I am kind of worried like you too, what would happen to my $$$$ camera if the joints broke and fell from the tree branch.

After checking both out, I bought the original Gorilla SLR zoom version for $6X at Lords. Give them a call to check for stocks.

Well, it really depends on what you use it for. If you are going to put your D300+80-200+ball head, i think i won't trust my nikon with the real Gorillapod either. Otherwise, I give and take the max load of 3kg, should be enough to support the same setup with a 35mm f2 or a 50mm f1.4 without much problems. I cannot speak for the real deal but the china one i've been using has yet fail. Will post again if it does...*cross fingers* I mean. I hope not!!!

I bought the china one from dealextreme for USD$12 last time.
It worked well enough, then I bought a 2nd hand original one and can feel it's a bit firmer.
Now dealextreme don't sell china one
