Hi,
There is a buzz when you switch off your E-510 with the IS ON. This is supposed to be normal. But does anybody have a problem with the motor/sensor buzzing when shooting with the IS ON? I seem to have this problem and its reallllllly annoying! Just wondering if this is normal. I wonder if my warranty will cover such issues...All help is appreciated. Thanls! |

it is due to the anti-dust shaker that is found on Olympus, Sony, Canon and Nikon DSLRs. It is normal as I have tested one E-510 before.

Thanks Charles...is it normal that the buzzing sound is heard when shooting with the IS on? I find that really hard to believe. I do understand that when switching of the camera with the IS on, the motor 'resets' the sensor position and that causes a whirring sound. I still find it hard to believe that there is a buzz when shooting with the IS on. I have checked some videos on youtube and there doesnt seem to be any sound when shooting...

the buzzing is the IS at work to compensate for the camera shake. at most shutter speeds (1/20 and above i think) you will not feel the buzz. at slower shutter speeds, the buzz and be felt as the IS is working throughout the time the shutter is open. this is normal.
you can see and feel the IS in action, go to Live-View mode and hold down the IS button. you will see the image stable as you hand hold the camera. you should send it in for checking if there is buzzing even at high shutter speeds (e.g. 1/125 and above).

Hmmm..what do you say about people who come in and save the day? Ah yes..life savers !!!
![]() I cant wait to get back home from work to check higher shutter speeds...I do remember my shutter was very slow when I noticed this... Kind of makes sense now...I switch off IS when using the tripod and dont hear this buzz. And only switch on IS at the end of the zoom though the shutter is fast enough. Thanks again guys. Will be sure to update..whatever the findings! Last edited by srinivasanj; 29th April 2008 at 12:37 PM. |

As pointed out by headfonz, the buzzing you hear is the IS module at work. When you turn off the camera with the IS on, the buzzing is the IS module locking itself down.
Now that that's sorted out, I'll just take the liberty to close the thread. Happy Shooting, and welcome to the community!
