Does anyone know of good websites that discuss how the Oly FL-xx can be used more effectively?
I find the manual a little scant. Thanks. |

The manual that comes with the flash (and camera) is like a manual that comes with a new car, it teaches you where the controls are but doesn't teach you how to drive.
If you're looking for how to do flash photography ANY book or website about flashes can teach you that...http://strobist.blogspot.com/ is good place for that info. If you're looking for info on how to set up the FL-xx flash settings for different situations, see: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=16048466 There's also Olympus Digital School...although they use larger strobes rather than the Oly flash (since the "school" is sponsored by that particular strobe manufacturer), there's lots of great lighting advice there: http://www.olympusdigitalschool.com/...ons/index.html |

Besides the manual, there's always wrotniak's website that provides excellent info on E-system accessories...
http://www.wrotniak.com/photo/43/fl-36.html And here're a few websites on flash photography, not specific to the Oly flashes, but the theory and usage of flash in a given situation is pretty much similar... http://planetneil.com/tangents/flash...looking-flash/ http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/ http://www.geofflawrence.com/flash_photography.php Have fun!! ![]()

Hi Mikefellah and Hitman,
Thanks for the links. Hitman, yes Wrotniak's website is a good and detailed resource on the Oly E-System and I refer to it from time to time. In addition, Biofos website is also equally good. http://www.biofos.com/esystem/index.html And for those who are interested in the development of the E3 as well some of Oly's history please see Zone-10's website, which is highly recommended: http://zone-10.com/cmsm/index.php?op...d=38&Itemid=73 |

Some more links:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...ssage=16048629 and http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159093 EB (English Bob) is considered having the best documented setings by many people. I haven't read his posts because I did not need any help yet, but I would not hasitate following the two links in detail if I had some problems.

Sorry Mike, since I am not the one who needs help I did NOT clicked and followed YOUR link. I don't feel I have the time to follow links, I used the time to find what I have thought would be interesting for the OP to read. I checked the message numbers and those were NOT the same. If you had mentioned his name I would have checked out YOUR link better before posting.
Anyway, if you want, I can remove my post, or part of it. It is not that important to me to have my posts here at all, I was just trying to help, like many others.

Mikefellh and Olyflyer,
I think it is alright to leave Olyflyer's post on the repeated link as it is. Olyflyer did post another Clubsnap link that provides a nice little guide that someone made based on English Bob's settings. In fact I was wondering if I can make that little guide into a card or sticker or some sort on one side, a grey card or white card on the other. If it is a white card, it can also double up as a bounce card if so needed. Thank you for your contributions and have either of you 2 gentleman used his settings in real life? |

You're welcome. As I say above, I haven't actually read what English Bob has written, I just know quite a few people praise his words. It is possible that I use his settings with the FL-50, but I have no idea. Normally I change my settings quite often, depending on the needs and the environment. The golden rule for me is TTL, if the test image is not right, adjust the flash, or the camera, or the lens. If I need to use the flash with Shutter priority I set the flash to Super FP.
