I'll need to seek help from the oly gurus here.
Anyone tried the FS-1 and FS-3 focusing screens from olympus on the E510 before? Besides the gridlines, are there any differences between them? How is the FS-1 different from the original one we have on the E510? I got the descriptions from olympus-esystem.com. ![]() FS-1 A new Neo Lumi Micro Mat using a modified hexagonal microlens with approx. 20 micro meter pitch. The mat surface controls light dispersion characteristics, for bright, easy-to-focus images. A natural blurring effect is seen in out-of-focus areas as well. ![]() FS-3 The FS-3 is a focusing screen with a grid matte screen, on which the image area is divided into 4 x 6 areas. The bright screen facilitates focusing and makes it easier to frame shots with horizontal/vertical check capability in landscape shooting. It also enables accurate duplication of printed photos with the macro lens. * Focusing Screen FS-3 can be purchased or serviced for replacement only at an Olympus service agent or Olympus Plaza. ![]() ![]() |

I was down at Olympus in March. I asked the manager/tech there about it. He was absolutely clueless. Said that he would check it up and get back to me about the possibility of bringing it in, and then installing it. Guess what? He din get back to me. You could try again and see what the say and keep us posted. I think I want to change the FS on my E510or E3 if possible.

Thank you for your quick reply.
I'm also very interested in changing the FS of my E510. I tried calling oly today. They are quite clueless about what a focusing screen is and i was transferred a few times before i spoke to someone who knows what i'm talking about. He mentioned that they can indent it in. He quoted me $80 for the FS-3 (sounds quite cheap eh?) and says that the FS-1 is the one which we get original with the camera. How accurate i don't know already.

Changing of the focus screen is by you, don't worry about it. It is very user friendly because there even got manual and tools for you to change the focusing screen from FS-1 to FS-2. As for E-3, changing of Focusing Screen to FS-3 need Olympus Service.. ![]() BTW thanks for giving us the cost... mmmm $80 dunno want to change my FS or not... ![]() Last edited by Merciless_Knight; 28th April 2008 at 10:21 PM. |

Hmm.. IF FS-1 comes together with the E1.. Then what comes together with E510? By the looks of it, it looks like the FS-1 too. I'm still wondering if the FS-1 or the FS-3 has stuff like split screen prism or something similar to accurately confirm the focus when i MF. By just having the image on the small VF being blured gradually does not help in getting spot on MF. Last edited by nerfwings; 28th April 2008 at 10:31 PM. |

If you're interested in replacing the focusing screen in your E-510, there's already a thread about it here:
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372379 BTW the FS-3 is for the E-3 only. Olympus doesn't consider the focus screens in the consumer cameras (E-3xx, E-4xx, E-5xx) to be replaceable. Additional, did you know that when you change your focus screen with one that has a focusing aid your exposure reading will be inaccurate as the exposure sensor is between the focus screen and the viewfinder. Any focus screen manufacturer that says theirs doesn't do this is lying to you! |
