Some of my experience ..... I had my honeymoon in sidney. We drove to Port Stephen and then to blue mountain. The journey from Port Stephen to Blue mountain driving was really a challenge. We stayed there for 2 nights. The scenery is damn beautiful. You can't find it in anywhere in the world. Try not to stay too late as the nightfall early and since it is a mountain, fog tend to be thick at night and we were really like driving like a blind. Enjoy your stay there. Cheers.

want to visit wollongong? if you are driving, wollongong is about 1 to 1.5hr drive away (depending how fast you can go & traffic conditions..)

after being stucked here for almost 1 year, i have to say.. there is nothing much honestly, here are my 'top 5' spots to drop by..
    1. Sea Cliff Bridge (along Grand Pacific Drive)
    http://www.grandpacificdrive.com.au/
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/se...e/interesting/

    2. Nan Tien Temple - largest buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere.. (and i didnt know they have a related branch in sg..)
    http://www.nantien.org.au/

    3. Symbio Wildlife Centre at Stanwell Tops (not exactly in Wollongong, but in the Illawarra region though..)
    http://www.symbiozoo.com.au/

    4. Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk - nature walk with fantastic views, more details after the jump..
    http://www.illawarrafly.com

    5. Blowhole at Kiama - 1 of the 'Tourist attractions' in this small town, tour buses can be seen daily..
    http://www.kiama.com.au/attractions/blowhole.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiama_Blowhole

if you are feeling 'brave', Wollongong and its surrounding regions generally have v.nice beaches with low human traffic..

also, if you are willing to drive further south (abt 1.5hr south of wollongong) there is a place called Jervis Bay, plenty of stuff you can do there. alternatively, Morton National Park's Fitzroy Falls is wonderful too.. (dont expect Niagara Falls standard though..)
    http://www.highlandsnsw.com.au/natur...roy_falls.html

or even Canberra is within 'reach' from wollongong (abt 3hrs drive)

OT: driving conditions can get as bad as this during bad weather (and not necc. only in winter)

this is shot in VIC, during Spring..

    thanks for the advice everyone..

was thinking if I can bring my tripod and leave it extended while walking, then deploy fast fast when the tour stops..

Anyway, sounds like the road going to Jenolan caves is quite a challenge. I will be driving a "campervan" down to the caves.. think i better go slower

Carrying a tripod in extended position SHOULD still be ok. The caves are modified with steps, etc, in order to cater to visitors of a wide age range. I don't recall any slopes which required hands for extra stability. I think steps were installed in those places.

Be careful with campervan. The roads aren't very wide, so cornering is a problem if there's oncoming traffic. Easy to cross the center line.

Hi guys, in sydney now and just came back from the Jenolan caves tour Visited Lucas and; Orient caves and I 'd have to say it is impressive for both the presentation and work of God!

Tried to bring my tripod in today, but unfortunately the guide told me not to use tripods as there were cases of people tripping over So were taken handheld and ISO boosted :P Will post to show some very soon!

hope you managed to get some nice shots!
Did you stop by the Sublime Point lookout? It's between Leura and Katoomba. Great view of the valley (i think it's called Jamison Valley) from that lookout.
Looking forward to seeing your pics. It's a pity that when I used to go quite regularly, I only had a PnS digicam, and a film SLR which I wasn't too capable with.

The drive there from katoomba is actually quite easy except for the last segment where road can be quite narrow. But other than that shld be ok. Which caves will you be visiting?

On a side note, mods, if you feel this may be more suitable for land/city scape section, pls do move this thread to that section. Thanks
