Taken with the Zenitar 16mm on a Minolta 700si. Repost 3rd Sept : Rescanned after cleaning the mirror on the scanner. PS to sharpen, increase saturation and increase contrast. Last edited by reno77; 3rd September 2003 at 11:07 PM. |

Don't you mean Raffles Place?
Anyway nice shot. Might have been better with better optics though, but good composition. |

I got better sharpness and contrast from my long gone Zenitar. The fisheye effect looks pretty extreme when compared to what I had before, and the colours look different. Was there any PS processing?

The picture was taken on Kodak elitechrome extra color.I did auto-levels and sharpening with PS. The original colors look normal, the colors in the scan are more saturated.

What were the settings? Sharpness seems lacking compared to some gorgeous shots from the Zenitar that I've seen on the net.(Was tempted to get one...)

Nice shot.
Where did you get the Zenitar from? Not so easy to find in Sg, I am looking for 1. Thanks |

I think it is a problem with the scanning technique. I have seen your shots with the Zenitar and I know it is sharper and vivid than your scans.

I bought it from ebay for US$100.
PS: I have uploaded the pic again. This time i set number of passes to 8 and put color balance to none(used PS auto levels instead). I'm using vuescan, does anyone know the optimal settings for scanning slides?

Now this scan is more fair to the lens in terms of bringing up the sharpness. But the bit of flare can still be seen, although given the situation, it can't be helped.
The contrast between the sky and the buildings is just too great. If you brighten up the entire picture slightly, you lose the beautiful blue sky. I think if you know a bit of PS magic, you can keep the sky blue, and brighten up the buildings slightly in a different layer. Then merge the two layers to produce a better picture. I think some PS experts on this board can share the technique. I am no PS expert so, sorry don't know exactly how to do it. The above process is still "legitimate" or "legal" in that this is the equivalent of "dodging and burning" in traditional photographic printing which is an accepted practice. |
