I own a Canon 350D, 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens. I love taking pictures of my family and nature. Wish to invest in B+W filters. Need advice whether m i getting the right ones after doing my homework from the net. Pls free to comment. This r the following filters: 1) Circular Polarizing Filter with a Redhancer 491 2) Yellow Green Filter 060 (11) 3) Infrared Filter 092 Thanks. |

First of all, I don't believe that the Redhancer 491 has circular polarising properties. You would need to buy a circular polariser separately for that.
Secondly, in this day and age of digital photography, there is really no need to buy colour conversion filters like the Redhancer or the Yellow-Green 060 (which I presume is for B&W photography use) which could be really quite expensive. The effects of these filters could be simulated and the intensities varied appropriately with respect to the needs of each image during post-processing with various photo-editing software. The Yellow- Green filter may not be the best for all forms of B&W photography and it might be better to experiment by simulating conversion with different coloured filters when converting the normal coloured image to B&W during post-processing to get the best 'look' for a particular image. So in my opinion, the only useful filters to get is the Circular Polariser and the IR filter (for IR photography) if you intend to use them on the Canon 350D. Also, do note that the EF-S 18-55 kit lens is known to be not good for IR photography because of hot-spot problem.
