You mean the VCL-R2052
Tele Conversion Lens 2.0X ??
I think it meant for videocam and therefore the quality isn't that good ? Besides its a 52mm one.. so you need to have a step up adaptar for it to attach to the F717 58mm thread.

Not as good as Sony ones. IMO since it cos S$100 for a vitacon
and a few hundred more you can get yourself something you
sure will work well y not get the sony conversion lens?

Buy something cheaper don't/can't use it = wast money
Buy something ex sure will work = money not wasted

This is just what i think.

step-down ring is cheap - only $5 or 6. Sony VCL-2052 is not a high quality lens and not recommended for F717.

I think SONY's converters are expensive because they are matching the Carl Zeiss lens of the F717.

Quality converters for a quality lens.

No complains from users of SONY's converters so far.

Vitacon is generally a budget brand, their filters are cheaper than HOYAs, and their flashes and lens are also cheaper than other well known 3rd party brands like Metz...etc

As with ALL budget products, you have to put up with imperfections, like vignetting, distortions, less sharpness.

have been using the vitacon tc for my nikon 5700 and lately ... 717 (not jumping ship .. just having another one) haha ...

here's my verdict:

1) quality is acceptable .. not excellent.
2) reasonable sharp
3) distortion is not really significant
4) slow down AF a little (anything to do with the tc?)

for $100 .. it is giving more than wat we can ask for already.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Sony HGD1758 and HGD0758... they *are* expensive at $350 a pop , but they're the best match for the camera...

Closest match would be a canon 80-200L, second hand.

ermm .. but i somehow prefer a proconsumer D cam then DSLR. why?

1) no need to carry lens around
2) more portable
3) no need to worry about CCD/CMOS maintenance
4) Cheaper!!!

haha ... that's y i need 5700 and 717 to complement each other.

Hmm actually CP5000 would be a better match... got 28mm wide angle (all the way down to 19mm with WA).. even 10D, D60, D100 cannot get 19mm....
