You post the question in Nikon section, what you think the answer will be??
![]() You got both, you work with them, you will know the answer. There isn't a outright better one, I guess, or the other one will "close shop" long time ago. Go for the one you FEEL is more suitable to your usage and ignore what others said. Hey, if it is the D200 you are letting go at the end, I might buy it from you if I can afford it by then. ![]()

You are the user of both cam so you'll be the best person to answer this question.
Different users have got different priority towards the functions of the camera. If you can decide which to choose, then keep both. Then again, if you are still undecisive, did you post the sale of your D200 for fun? Last edited by Lmodel; 15th April 2008 at 12:35 AM. |

you seem to have more equipment with nikon, so best is stick with nikon as you dont have to make a huge loss by selling away your stuff.
changing just the body alone is way cheaper than changing all the lens. but since you're switching over to canon...you already have an answer in your mind some time ago... Last edited by Simon_84; 15th April 2008 at 11:53 AM. |

I am looking for a Canon / Pentax which allows the use of some great M42 lenses collection. They are cheap but with great picture quality. To me many new DSLR lenses are .... er... no comment and super expensive when new..... worthless within a few years.
One thing I HATE about Nikon body is they cannot take other lenses. I am about to ditch the D70s and use the D80 because I have many AFD lenses. Keep the Canon 30D with some great MF lenses to go with. |

Nikon can accept many 3rd party lenses, such as tamron, sigma, tokina... etc. D70s can still use all AFD lenses and even non-AFS lenses. so wat are u actually on abt?

Why not sell off your D200 & 30D & get the New D300 instead? No point to waste money selling off your whole Nikon system.

Anyway, in my opinion it's already quite weird to have both D200 and 30D since the two camera are in the same level. |

I am not talking about the 3rd party lenses. Those will become worthless very rapidly. No doubt Nikon can use Nikon lenese, but here it ends. Nikon cannot take lenese like Leica, Russian, etc. While Canon or Pentax can. I am talking about lenses that really have character. not off the mill ones. I have the Leica 60mm Macro, old Pentax Takuma and old Zeiss lenses. How to use on Nikon DSLR? Although I have using Nikon stuff over 20 years, now I have to look for Canon Pentax D bodies. You cannot deny that Digital stuff devaluates very rapidly and there is no end chasing for the latest equipment. Last edited by jonathan_wong; 15th April 2008 at 12:46 PM. |

Doesn't matter because Nikon makes some of the finest lenses. Plus you've got Carl Zeiss ZF also. F-mount is even pretty standard in industrial cameras for optical metrology. That's how good Nikkor optics is for people who are not aware.

Just keep the D200 and sell the 30D. D200 is a fine camera.

I have 10 Nikon lenses and I love them. I started from D100 when it came out, then moved to D70s and recently D80. Prices came down a lot, but I dont see the same leap in the picture quality.
HELLOSTEVEN is fortunate to have 2 cameras. His question is which out to let go. My point is he can keep the Nikon system and have greater flexibility with the Canon. D200 still can get good prices so he may upgrade to D300 as some suggested here. If he only has the AF-S DX VR Zoom 18-200 mm f/3.5 - 5.6G IF-ED and the AFS 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR , then does he really need a better DSLR? What does HELLOSTEVEN shoot that the D200 cannot deliver? Why not think about better lenses before the body? Not just the D300, the Fuji S5 Pro is also a good option to make full use of the superb Nikon AFD lenses. I have seen the results and contemplating one also. For the Canon 30D it may be a bit of waste to loose a lot of money selling it away. Why not put a good MF lens on it and use it. Maybe a 85mm F2 or a 17mm to take advantage of it? In this case, HELLOSTEVEN will enjoy 2 system to play with and great flexibility. Goto the classified section and you can buy a lot of lenses at bargain. Cheesecake, you are the moderator and I would expect you to set some standard in being polite in discussions. |
