which AF mode did you use and how many AF zones?

for the cycling shots, some of them i used the AI Servo focussing, but later on, i used manual and set the focus to 5+ meters and left it there - so when the cyclists came nearby, i used the continuous drive mode to snap 3 shots for each passing cyclist - and zoomed out from 85mm to 24mm as they passed by.

so in a way, it's somewhat by luck, for some of the photos.
