Question Tips for a drift event.

Hi, I am new to the board. Tomorrow I am going to be driving in the D1 Search for a US Driver and during the downtime I am hoping to get some shots of the pros drifting. Are there any tips you guys and gals can share with me? I am going to be using a Canon Rebel EOS with 400 ISO. What should my shutter speeds be set at? aperture? etc.

How can I get those cool speed lines / blur effect in the background? I know its called panning but are there any tips for this as well? I read the article and it was great any more insight would help.

If I posted in the wrong forum please feel free to lock this post up, but I will be posting the pics as soon as they are developed. Thanks again.
