It'd be even more expensive if you buy K10D, then sell it and buy K20D

I just a reply from MS Color and they quoted me:

    Model: K20D body---$1820(inc.gst)

    Brand: Sigma
Model: 17-70mm-----$576+7%gst free one year extended warranty

    Is this price ok?

When you are happy and enjoying using it, you not gonna think or remember it's exp and you will soon start your LBA.

Price for the camera body is pretty okay in local standard. But the Sigma 1770 can be had cheaper for a used one But if you prefer buying new, that's the price you need to pay.

Shriro does not release the K20D with the NEW kit lens in Singapore, is it?

Do the regular shops that you all mention here have the K20D with the old kit lens in a good package price?

I think during the IT fair they bundle it together with a kit lens..18-55mm if I remember correctly.

Yes. But I believe watchthewaves was talking about the 18-55 II.
    The 2nd generation kit lens.

Anyone got any rumors or insider news as to when it will hit our shores?

18-55 II will be available in 1 or 2 weeks time

    Good news. Hope it's a well-priced package.

Planning to upgrade to a DSLR in the near future and the K20D looks really attractive. Related to this, I have a question on what lens I need for this -- if I am doing some moderate day hikes (not climbing) in the Alps, what lens would the gurus here recommend I take along?

I'm thinking that the 18-55 II might have insufficient zoom in the event that I want a closer shot of something out there. But might be a good starter lens to get I suppose.

I'm sure the 18-250 will be a great travel lens, but I was thinking of weathersealing since I may encounter snow that high. If I go with a DA*50-135 instead, would it be OK for landscape shots? I'd rather not be hassled with the need to switch lenses when I'm hiking. And for future use, I'm thinking that it's speed would be useful for indoor use - candid shots and closeups. But it is really big.

Wonder what is the different between the old 18-55mm and the 18-55mm II?

Just a suggestion, with landscape shooting in mind and the need of weatherseal, go for the DA*16-50 instead. If you need comments on this particular lens, there are few owners here who might help.

As for DA*50-135, it make closeup shot within a range easy. As for shooting landscape, i go 16-50 anytime.

Till now, no "all-in-one" lens can meet your requirement of weatherseal. Oh yes, before i forget. Since you mentioned about encountering snow while hiking, i suggest you read up on condensation in camera from warm-cold/cold-warm environment. Some necessary steps is needed to perform to ensure no condensation is happening inside your lens and camera. You will need to know that cos even the weatherseal DA* lens is prone to it. Enjoy your hikes and shooting.

Thanks. Read from other forums though that many people overseas seem to be having problems with their DA*16-50. Sounds like Pentax has QC problems with that lens. Anyone here encountered problems with theirs?

The less expensive alternative I suppose is to go with the new kit lens and be careful not to get it wet, I suppose.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Pentax lens is there's little or no electronic parts in the lens (exclude DA*). So in a drizzle it's still ok, cause I used to get my lens slightly wet when I go for macros Just make sure u wipe them dry after the shoot

I guess the kit lens is still the best companion for light travel and a start of ur pentax lens collection.

I agree with longko as long as the water is being wipe off quickly.
    Let's get rolling :)

Another lens option you might want to consider is the Sigma 17-70.

I went for hikes to snow environment, even to the glaciers and ice field before. No problem for camera & lenses with or without weather sealed.

One thing. I am more worried that I slip and fall with the camera inmy hand and worst injured myself in that kind of environment.

Pentax started to put electronic parts inside their lenses since A series But the electronic parts won't get wet easily even when you use the lens in light rain.

lol that explains why the da 50-200mm drop inside mud wash with water still can use (refering the the incident of someone in malaysia drop K10D with da 50-200mm into mud abt 1 yr ago)
