Thread: Dilemma on lenses

    Default Dilemma on lenses

Just bought a D60 and now looking for lenses.
The pricing difference is quite vast and i really dunno how i should decide.
I shoot landscapes, streets and event/functions/ballrooms.

    Basically here are my choices:

    1. Buy 2nd hand 55-200 VR at $300 to pair with my 18-55 VR

    2. Buy new 18-200 (no VR Sigma) at $788 to replace 18-55 VR (to sell away)

    3. Buy 2nd hand 18-135 (no VR) at $300+ to replace 18-55 VR (to sell away)

    4. Buy 2nd hand 18-200 VR at around $1000 to replace 18-55 VR (to sell away)

Note: Some of the above prices are just rounded up estimates only and may not reflect true prices.

I think it is a tie between price and also the convenience of not changing lens. How?
Btw is there alot of quality difference between using option 1 and option 4?

Also, roughly how much can my 2-3 days old kit lens 18-55 VR fetch?

    Thanks a million!

Normally, those who can afford quality can consider a 3-lens kit, eg 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200. Those who cannot or do not want to spend so much can pick up an 18-200.

In that case it seems the 18-200 is a very convenient solution for you.
For lower lighting situation it might be a good investment to get a flash as well.

"I shoot landscapes, streets and event/functions/ballrooms."

    I'll pick either
    1) keep the kit lens + get a flash unit
    2) tamron 17-50 F2.8 + flash unit
    3) 18-200VR + flash unit

It's better to equip with a flash when shooting events.
For landscape, ur kit lens is sufficient~ Unless u wanna upgrade for picture quality...

If you the reach like 200mm range, then i suggest getting 18-200VR.
Sometimes you will not have the time to change lens when shooting events.
