Had the opportunity to visit this Kampung located at Lorong Buangkok. Didnt noe that this small clusters of Kampung houses are still standing up till today and much of its Kampung flavour remains.
A mix of ethnic groups living side by side with the real feel and touch, less a few signs of modern influences. I was told that this place is prone to flooding up to about knee high during the wet seasons and the reason why this Kampung survived modernisation is because the land is privately owned (Cant officially confirm that info though). Here's some captures to share ... 1. The signage that hints the start of the trail to the Kampung at Buangkok ![]() 2. Inherent for Kampungs that I remember, overgrown vegetation often frames a house in the distant that proudly stand out under the sun rays ... ![]() 3. At the "junction" within the Kampung ![]() 4. The recycling trade takes its root here ... ![]() 5. Copper wires worth its weight in gold ![]() Last edited by Leinaj; 6th April 2008 at 07:12 PM. |

Actually, I hope the TS dun mind me sharing.
But actually when I spoke with the residents of this last kampong of S'pore, they mentioned that they've seen quite a number of photographers at their kampong. Though they were friendly, I could sense that they the residents might not like the idea of an influx of pple visiting their kampong like this. Nonetheless, the kampong is located somewhere in hougang. If you guys were to actually visit this place, its best that you ask 1st before going in to snap pics, and remember to greet the residents. At least wave at them and say a "Hello" or apologize for intruding. Be as quiet as you can while in there and do not, i mean do not climb over or walk into people's living premises. The kampong has seen its changes recently. Now, there are newer kampong houses within the kampong. All with a concrete foundations. Why so? Due to flood hazard. So please, refrain from asking them about floods or mention anything like that because pple in there are rather supertitious. |
