Thread: I am still blur how to take close up photos.

Default I am still blur how to take close up photos.

I have a Raynox 250 but i dun really know how to maximise the use of it.

What i want to achieve is taking pics of butterfly.
Hence i will be shooting it from far (around 5-10m?).

In this case, what are the things i need?
    Telezoom lens will suffice?
Or need to attach the Raynox?

If you are using the raynox 250, your working distance will be about ~10cm +/-. If you want further working distance, you will need a macro lens ...and the 180mm will give quite a distance....not sure exactly....about 40cm? Will let those who have the lens comments.

Proportionally, the higher the mag rate, the closer the distance.

    if using close up lens:
    Raynox 250 is a +8, WD is 10cm
    +4.5 is about 19cm
    +2.9 is about 29cm
    +1.6 is about 40cm

Read the Macros and Close-ups FAQs . See FAQ #7 and #9.

As for butterfly photography, you need a good working distance like > 1 feet. Try those insensitivity butterflies.

i find it hard to find butterflies, not to mention to find those which are not moving around.
Even those stationary ones, once i get a bit close, they will fly away.

So i wonder how u all manage to shoot butterfly?
    Can i just telezoom instead?
I am very new to this.

You need LOTS of practise... and good fieldcraft to sneak up to them...
