japan.
nice sharp pics. but needs more work on composition i think... maybe not everything in center. did you cut off the bottom of #3 digitally? looks weird to have part of the boats cut off. on #1, if there were more contrast between the white petals and the yellow center stalks, i would be nice. |

i'm in no position to critique cos i'm not a pro nor own a dslr. but from the pics, they are not sharp at all. in fact, not good.
wanted to get a dslr, with great interest in the 450d. but now...seems like ..err..wait for better one to come out. |

Rubber Duck try to use manual AF, set the middle or side AF point manually & lock the focus on the object you want to be sharp then compose your picture.

If youre summing up an entire SLR system based on 4 photos you saw on the internet, you're much better off with a point and shoot

![]() anyway, that's a little off topic. i would say the ts can't wait to show us what the 450D can do, has got the test shot feeling. #2 is not bad. Last edited by Buggy; 6th April 2008 at 12:56 PM. |

It has slight improvements. Might not worth to upgrade if you already have 400D or even 350D. But for new user this one is sure a merry buy.

I think a xxxD owner would rather upgrade to a xxD.
Someone on potn already did a comparison of the 450 and 400D, 450 has better noise control and overall better IQ |

If I can just add my 2 cents worth...
There are technical things about the pictures that can be improved, eg. where to focus, which AF point to use etc. It's fine that you're getting these wrong, cos these things you will improve with more shooting and reading up and more practice. It's probably not an issue of your camera being not good enough. Another issue is that I feel the photos can be improved in terms of composition etc. I've just come back from Tokyo as well, and I was also trying to figure out how best to shoot sakura in a way that shows it's beauty. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but for sure your shots are not showing the beauty of the sakura. Just keep shooting, and good luck!! browncow |

The camera isnt focusing on the flowers, try partial/spot metering on the flowers itself pic 3 The oof flowers in the background are very distracting, this would have been a good pic if not for that |

Thanks for all your comments and advice.
I'm still very new in DSLR. Yet have to shot more to improve. For the sakura flowers, I face a problem where and what to shot and focus it. Is kind of hard to shot it..cos there is too many sakura...at that point I was lost... So just try to shot and hope to get the right feeling. As for the river side where there are so many subject.. I was lost too....... May be someone can advice me on that... Overall, Still learning & hope to improve more.... I saw a few threads and given advice and said.... You control the camera not the camera control you. just go a shot more.... and learn for mistake.... that is the most important now. So just get out there and shot.... anyway Thanks again... |

just got back from japan this morning. Didn't go to the East Garden, but the sakura is really at full bloom right now. |

For sakura I think the trick is not to go close up, cos up close they just look like any other flower.
I feel their beauty is when the whole park is full of sakura blooms, so I think it works better to show more of them, either as part of a landscape, or as background to a subject, eg, your gf or somebody. The following are 2 shots that my friend shot with her P&S camera last week. I'm using them here cos 1) I feel they capture the beauty of the sakura and 2) cos I feel my own sakura shots are not good enough. They are technically not perfect, but asthetically and artistically nice...as opposed to technically perfect but artistically poor, so it's important to work not only on the technical aspects, but also the composition etc. My 2 cents. ![]() ![]() browncow |
