Thread: This Is No Laughing Matter

Default This Is No Laughing Matter

    Dear Snappers,

What I am about to post is serious matter, and I personally feel that every responsible photographer, whether your are a full-time pro or a hobbyist needs to know this.

I found out that a friend of mine (her name shall be withheld for safety reasons) was invited to do a shoot by a photographer. Now I do not know for sure how this photographer managed to locate my friend who is only a teenager. But they did a shoot together recently. Apparently this photographer 'did' things to my friend during the shoot. What exactly happened I do not know, because my friend is rather traumatised by the whole experience and does not wish to talk about it even now. I can speculate what transpired during the shoot, but I can only imagine it is not something good.

I am absolutely angered and disgusted that out there someone is using the pretext of photography to take advantage of a girl in such despicable manner. It is a total disgrace to the rest of the photographers in the local community.

Whoever you are, if you happen to be in this forum and is reading this, let me tell you, don't think you can do what you did and get away with it. There will come a time when someone is brave enough to pursue the matter all the way to the authorities. And then the only photo taken will be your ugly face splashed all over the front page news.

To the rest of the photographers, I hope that we keep vigilant about this issue. And to those freelance models, you may want to excercise more care when you take up one-to-one assignments. You don't know what kind of sick people are out there.

If anyone, has encountered or heard of such similiar encounters, maybe we should contact each other and do something about it.

I am a volunteer in a welfare organization, and I had encounter almost similiar problem before, where the daughter of a lady who was under our care was molested. They don't want to bring up the matter, but in the end I made a report to MCYS, based on the advice from Family Service Centre.

I think you should talk to your friend, that someone else might be hurt if she doesn't want to report. Or you may also talk to her teacher, or maybe ask some suggestion from the nearest Family Sevice Centre.

If she stays in Yishun / Sembawang Area, I can help since I has contact in the Family Service Centre there.

PM me if you need more help.

Predators like this type must be dealt with and not allowed another chance. If they feel they got away with it, they will not only do this again but get more aggressive and ambitious with what he does to the next one and the next.

If she really have proof about this she should come forward to help prevent others from having to experience what happened to her or worst.

I feel sorry for your friend. If i may suggest, please let someone counsel her so she can cope and deal with the bad memory. It can haunt her for the rest of her life if she was the victim. The counsellor has to be someone she trust and very close to her or preferably a professional female counsellor.

I have a kid and if this happens to her, this chap will not be let lose as I will use all i have to crucify this chap to the law. It's not about revenge, but its a socaially despicable act and he has to be responsible for his action.

As always, there may be two sides to a story, but the culprit has to know he had probably gone overboard even if she may have dropped the wrong hint. You want to play, dont do it in Singapore.

If I may appeal to the rest, please do not press for names as it may further traumatise the girl when the info are splased on open forums. The best help she can get is to talk to a female police officer. The rest will be sorted out without having her name revealed by the culprit.

Get a female counseller, those specialising in sexual victims. Then report to the police. It is a must. Not a matter of "forgetting it", but a matter of rights, a legal matter. Lets say this fella goes out to hunt other people how? Who ever is that pervert should be punished. Such a lowly individual. A dispicable and condemnable act.

let her know that even if she tells herself to forget about it...memories will still come back and haunt her especially traumatising event is not dealt wif a closure.

would be good if her close female friend is able to get her to report it to the police... for the better of other female preys.

    tsk...such beast exist...

Nah..I personally too will not advocate naming names here. This is a matter to be taken to the authorities and dealt with in private away from this forum.

A disclaimer will have to be added that we also only heard one side of the story. Getting into a "witch hunt" mode is not going to help make things better or easier.

I don't think these ppl are called photographers, photog does it for the passion and art. These ppl are perverts. Her keeping quiet, would just allow the pervert-tographer to move on to the next victim!!!

I strongly encourage her to do her part and report this matter to the police........ otherwise, there will be injustice and this part of history will keep on repeating itself.

My advice (similar as voldisnarta) is to inform her parents or have a female counselor (from family service center) to aid in this matter. We only know partial story from your thread / friend , so it is better to let the authorities deal with it in a just manner. We can speculate certain things at this point and it does not help anyone.

By not reporting , not only may more pple get hurt in future; it also does not help your friend to recover her mental wounds by potentially depriving her of the help from experienced support group.

If she is a minor, her parents should be informed about this as they are the main responsible caregiver/guidance and also another affected party.

Yes , we should always be cautious. There are black sheeps in every industry.
