Shortage of IR filters???

Was taking a walk around some shops in Funan and Peninsular - including the well-known shops like John 3:16, Cathay and Alan Photo - and found out that many of them don't have any stock for IR filters now. Is there some kind of a nationwide shortage?

Haven't checked TK, Adelphi or SLS though, probably will do the same walk for SLS this weekend. Hopefully I can deal then...

(oh BTW, I was looking for a 52mm piece)

alan photo salesman did mention it a week or two yet

he claimed that the material used to make the hoya r72 seems to be in global shortage
but then i don't know if it is true

have been waiting since 1st week of march. tcw only left with 1 pc 77mm - $200plus.

Hmm... I guess I'll look for it again in two weeks time then. Thanks for the replies! If there's going to be an IR outing soon, maybe can wait for a couple of us too.

Join in the outing, most of the regulars will have spare IR filters to loan out.

Don't worry about having no filters just yet. As teerex mentioned, most of us do have spare filters, so just indicate that you need a filter and what size. The regulars will try to sort it out for you!

BTW, I do have a 77mm spare (brand new), but it is not Hoya... no brand one... anyone interested?

i want to try my sigma 10-20 to see how the hotspotting is haha

but then maybe next time.. where you get it ar, hoya one is damn expensive, i see the price can almost buy a sigma 70-300 i heart pain.. plus planning to mod cam in summer, so no pt if too expensive..

went 3:16 on sat to check out cause I am intending to buy a 72mm thread IR filter the guy there kinda confirm that there isn't any stock in SG for now (mentioned something about the material needed to create the filter is low or something).

Anyway, if anyone finally get to see it back on the shelves, post it back here so i can grab one too.

i just checked at cathay yesterday they are still out of stock. John 3:16 as well. They said the stock most probably come next week .. anybody got any spare ones to sell or borrow i wanna try it out during the labour day holiday..

try buying it from StanGetz
cause i told him i'm prob not buying the IR filter from him cause have decided
to wait for a brand new one. go PM him!

Thought I'll give a small update here. Just checked with John 3:16 a couple of days back and they still don't have stock. Anyone thinks I'll get better luck in SLS this week?

what size are you looking for?

AP (Funan) has 77mm
MS Color has 55mm& 58mm

back in late april, cathay photo said there will be stock in May.
