Hi guys,
I seem to have a problem with my 5D. The pictures that it produces doesn't seem to be sharp and the colors does not seem to be outstanding. I'm using the Tamron 28-75 2.8 and I've read reviews that this lens is a good combination with the 5D. I'm trying to figure out if it is the camera that has a problem. I've tried the 5D with an L lens and it still doesn't seem to be sharp enough. It has this soft focusing effect and sometimes there's a certain degree of "blurryness". I don't really know how to explain it but I'm not impressed with the pictures that it produces. I have half the mind to send it in to Canon service center. Wondering if you guys can recommend some self diagnosis steps that I can follow before I head down the 'A & E' department of Canon. Help! Regards, Kenneth |

Do a focus test. Sounds like your 5d has a front / back focus issue....

I'd love to send you guys pictures for a better assessment. If it is possible, you could drop me your email at kenneth.luo@gmail.com so that I can send you some samples.
I'd like to know what is front / back focus problem? I've just tried to shoot at f8 aperture for better control of the depth of field and I still find that the focusing is not accurate and the subject doesn't have the details that I want to capture even when viewed at 100% crop. |

One possibility is that noise reduction is turned on. Do a complete reset of the camera settings and try shooting tripod mounted. But yes. Pictures will be great to analyse the issue. You can mail me at Jason@camerarental.biz

I have a question about the Canon's in-sharping. Does it really help in producing sharp JPEG images or is the best way to get great images is through RAW shooting? Thanks guys! ![]() |

This may be rather blunt. But I am surprised you bought a 5D without first familiarizing yourself with digital photography.

What is your previous camera? What are you comparing it with ..?
Some cameras has higher contrast or sharpening settings at default.. At default settings shooting JPEG, the images produced by my 5D will appear much less contrasty than my 350D, and the color will look less vibrant, but it retained much more subtle details, like skin tone. Dunno whether this is the cause of your problem though.. ![]() |
