Default Any idea how to look for a job for a filipino?

    Hi guys,

Just trying to help my friend to look for a job in singapore.
She's from Philippines, but not highly educated.
After graduating from high school with 'O' levels, she went into colleage n major in computer science.

But dropped out from school for some reason.

So is it possible for her to look for a job in singapore?

    Thanks yea!

That means she has not completed diploma level?

It depends on her current job. If she is still in the hardware, network, software industries, that means she has experience. It is not difficult to get into small/medium enterprise like Sim Lim shops or do some call centres or simple troubleshooting work (you can check out the papers). Since she does not have a diploma, it is better for her to go for some course first or get some licenses, e.g., Sun certified Java, CISCO, or MCSE, for a better job prospect.

Even those young chaps nowadays who setup computers for new enterprises need at least a diploma. For programming, no luck, you need a good diploma or the SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer).

    Best wishes~

How is she on the immigration side? It can be pretty tough to get any employee to arrange for her to get PR or work permit..etc. What qualification she have done back home might not be recognise here and some mean employers will exploite that side as she is foreigner..so she ends up getting alot less, poorer working benefits and maybe condition.

Like accounting....my company was trying to hire a new one..half of those that turn up were from Myammar. Hardly spoke good english though they claim they did. They have MBA, ACCA, double degrees..etc..and all asking about $1,300 or even one asking for just 1,000 but all required we arrange working permit..etc for them. That in itself can be dangerous if they ran off. We did not consider any of them as they don't speak Mandarin or write chinese as our main biz is mainly with Chinese countries.

I did come across one IT/Mobile shop in Sim Lim Sqaure which I notice the owner ( I think ) hired 2-3 filipino ladies to sell those mobile phones and I think they were targeting the filipino market locally...maybe tourist or PRs and they spoke good enough english to sell to locals too.. Not sure which unit now.

It would not be easy and your friend might need to clear a few hurdles first initially if she had not already done so...and the major one is immigration stuff, work permit...etc. Good lucky to your friend though

Hotels is a possible avenue... waitressing, chambermaids etc.. I think if can speak English is good enough. And when in Singapore... it would be good opportunity to continue her studies here. Doing Part-time.

    Good luck!

Could be...their counter is very much right at the edge of the shop front. They sell alot of PDA phone, Whole range of Philips mobile phone, HP and Asus mobiles PDAs..etc. It is just at the corner near the escalator. If you face their counter, the escalator is toward the right hand side just 15 feet away.

I see that places like petrol stations hire filipinos, you might like to take a look at such options too.
