in singapore, CNG is calculated by kg, not litres, litres is used in malaysia though. i pump one full tank about 20kg, around 12 bucks. travels 200km, which isn't very impressive cos my tank very small, like two scuba diving tanks like that. i said 3-4bucks in my previous post, well................ see if you want to scan fingerprint anot.

edit: dang...... are you people going to fight with me for the queue nxt time? i always enjoyed to short queues of CNG station. one thing though, singapore CNG car refillers are inexperience. it took them 7 minutes to get it in, malaysia took a few seconds. damn scary sia, i thought the guy was going to kill us all.
    Ah, thanks Bro.

Ah finally some figures rolling out!

Looks like it's a very cost effective. I shall wait for more refueling stations to build first then start to invest in it..

Meantime, is there anywhere I can check out prices of hybrid (petrol+CNG) cars?

    Thanks!!

hmm...if i not wrong, CNG is CNG, hybrid is hybrid...

After u buy the car, then u go convert to CNG...but i think it voids the agent warranty.

yes. CNG is CNG, aka, uses both petrol on CNG (i haven't seen any local ones which inputs only CNG). hybrid is the one where those electric batteries come in.

So far, no differences in mantainance for CNG. but one thing though, the engine often starts up quite noisily, like having a hard time. it is a characteristic of CNG cars then, i think it should have improved by now. any new CNG car owners to confirm that?

no. mine isn't a conversion, it was the first available CNG car model here in singapore(excluding taxis and conversions). mercedes E200 NGT. NGT means Natural Gas Technology. At the time, the dealer told me there was only a few running about in singapore, not sure about now.

Apart from the starting up of the engine, how about the ride ? ie as smooth as a normal E200, noise and power? sorry to ask so much. Cos I am thinking of a Prado with CNG.

gee............i think everyone made a wrong assumption of me. i still haven't got my driving license yet. maybe i should have replace "my car" with "my family's car".

but i asked my father, and he finds no significant differences between them both. we had a normal E200 before this car, but it was reaching its 10year mark, so we quickly sold it before it got a price lower than scrap metal. and me as the passenger, can't find any difference too

No worries, whatever it is, good info. Cos till now I am sure many of us are still new to this idea of CNG and frankly the prices of petrol has only one way to go and that is up. so probably CNG is a good alternative.

however, i kind of hate the way the government is working on CNG. cos one reason we bought this car at 2006 is because they said they will open a few more CNG stations by the end of 2006. but in the end, because there isn't many CNG cars, they delayed it, kind of a very money-minded move as i find that they should always make the first move to prevent this chicken and egg problem.

and now, they opened one at mandai and another one i forgot where. but haiz.............. the mandai opening hours are pathetic. it closes at 5pm.

I understand, probably they make more money from the petrol taxes as petrol prices escalate, hence no incentive to do other wise.

oh, btw, another bit of info. not everyone can go jurong island to refill. when the CNG is bought, they only gave the owner of the car a pass(only one per car), so when the car needs refilling last time at jurong, everyone will alight outside and my mum drives inside(my mum is the owner on paper so only she has the pass). on the bright side................... there's a drink machine and ice-cream machine outside.

For those thinking of converting petrol into CNG, think carefully. The conversion is one way and cannot be reversed given there is a govt subsidy. As for the resale value of car, it may not worth much after conversion. also, it is a huge tank and your boot space (or third row seat for smaller mpv) is wiped out almost completely.

I still feel hybrid cars make the most sense for now. But its just my own opinion.

    Chevrolet is selling CNG cars.

    Sedan 1.6 is $62,000.
    Estate 1.6 is $65,000.

    Is it worth to buy?

hmmz.. satay16, your gas tank is in the boot?

Wondering if manufacturers make cars that incorporates the cng tank into the design? such that the tank wont encroach into the boot space?

nonono, it is in the boot, as in underneath it, the place you put spare tyre, which brings me to a disadvantage of this car, it has no spare tyre, but only one of those gel things which you pump into the puntured tyre to fix it, but once you do that, the tire is wasted.

So it means if I get a SUV like Estate, the gas tank will not eat into the back 3rd row seat?
