Smile Aurora-like vibrance in the evening sky.

14th March 2008 is a special day as it marked the end of a week-long raining spell. Many would have taken the time off today to shoot some pictures outdoor. I had my treat in the morning, but come the evening time (6.30pm).. saw the colors of something rainbow-like in the sky.

Took the shots in AMK area and noticed a few snapping away with their phone-camera too. Please feel free to share your take here if you also captured the "phenomenon".

This is not uncommon. It happens when the sun is hidden by large clouds; usually altocumulus, cirrocumulus or lenticular clouds. At the same time, the sun's ray must hit the thinnest part of the clouds (which are formed by very small mostly uniformly-sized water droplets or ice crystals) at a certain angle.

Some Iridescent Clouds are small and some can be quite big.

Here's mine taken some months back....beautiful sight!
