IS would be useful on the telephoto end. imo i would take the canon, don't think i'll need the extra 50mm on the sigma.

consider canon's 75-300 and 70-300 too. the 55-250 is actually meant for digital 1.5x crop sensors and hence the extra 25mm on the wide end

do consider whether you need the extra 50mm on the tele end or 25mm on the wide end.

    ef-s lens are meant for cameras with 1.5/1.6 crop...ie. 400D/350D/450D and so on...so eg. u get a 10-22 lens...it is actually 16-35mm...

if you use the full frame cameras then u cannot use ef-s lens but ef lens...

if u think u will upgrade to full frame cams in future...it will be gd to get ef lens...however, by that time...u can try to sell this ef-s lens anyway.

    hope this helps...

if it's konica it will be 2x....

oh ya...1 more thing y i will prefer to get canon...resale value...u lose abt 15-20% off the price of a new piece at the time u sell for canon lens...for other brands...usually 25-30% at least.... so unless u dun wan to sell in future, go for canon...

talking abt that...anyone wan my sigma 28-300? hahaha....bought when i was a newb...now kinda regret...

hahaha....long story...but the main thing for me is the resale value. it's quite a decent lens for such a budget. i'm sure many brothers here will say it's not a good lens. but at that price...it's quite a gd lens covering a wide range of angles. i will still keep this lens in future should i invest in better lens, but it's still a gd backup to have... better a lousy lens than no lens.

it's useful when i wan to travel light as well. cos with 2 lens i pretty much cover everything that is thrown at me, rather than carry 3 to 4 lens to cover 10mm to 300mm.

Just to add on, IS is a great help when you're shooting at the telephoto end hand-held, should be fine if you're making the shot outdoors under daylight. In low light conditions, a tripod would still be preferable since IS can only help you to a certain extent. IS only reduces handshakes, it does not eliminate it totally.

Hmmm guess i'll be getting the canon 55-250mm IS with the upcomming 450D since the lens has IS and has better resale value. Thanks guys for all the info
