Fujifilm S8000 Vs S5800

Hi guys,
I'm also deciding between either S8000 or S5800. From what i found out, S8000 cannot zoom while in movie recording mode whereas S5800 can. Also, S5800 have auto pop-up for flash while S8000 require manually pressing of flash release button. Can anyone S8000 or S5800 user verify this. Coz if true, then i will rather choose S5800 than S8000.

S5800 and S5700 are basically the same except for the 1 mp difference. U can take a look at the list below to have a rough idea on S5800. I dun own a S8000 so i can't say much abt that cam. but what S8000 stands out is its 18x zoom and its image stabilization. specs wise, iirc, some of its specs are similar to S5700/S5800.

yes, S5800 has auto pop-up for flash.

My complied list of S5700 pros & cons :

Pros:

1) For outdoor or day shots, its picture quality is very good.
2) Its macro shots are very good and can get as close to 1cm.
3) It allows optical zoom in video mode.
4) Due to its unprotuding lens, it is less prone to dust.
5) Side handle is big and comfortable to hold.
6) 10x zoom at a low price.
7) Accepts xd/sd cards.
8) Noise control is relatively good despite lack of SuperCCD.

Cons:

1) Purple fringing appears at high contrast areas.
2) Lack of SuperCCD => nite shots not as good as F31fd.
3) No image stabilization.
4) Usable ISO is no more than 400 => noisy pics after ISO400.
5) Shot to shot is abit lag.
6) Shutter speed range abit short => 4 sec - 1/100 sec
7) Its wide end is abit tight => 38mm - 380mm.
8) No battery indicator on lcd screen.

I must say that this camera is quite value for money considering its low price while having most of the controls like a DSLR. if image stabilization is ur main concern, then perhaps u have to look elsewhere unless u willing to bring a big tripod to wherever u go.

Thanks for info. S5800 comes with image stabiliser & have battery indicator on LCD. Shutter speed is 4sec - 1/1000sec. The best part is it comes with "Natural Light & with Flash" mode that takes 2 quick succession shots & will both display on LCD for you to choose which to keep.

I will down by Audio House & see if they can still offer the package at $369 for s5800.

i suppose the image stabilizer is juz pushing up the ISO, not really the movements of sensor or lens to counter shake. U can go and try it at the shops. Maybe i am wrong.

a battery indicator? that would be very useful as my S5700 dun have, only when batt is almost flat, then the cam lcd will show a red blinking batt sign. i think S5800 is not a heavy batt consumer, same like my S5700. my AA eneloop batteries can last very long in S5700 (i dun use flash for 50% of my shots).

All in all, go down to the shop and physically try it. Hope u can buy ur ideal camera ultimately, regardless if it is S5800 or any other camera.

s8000 cannot zoom in movie..and flash doesnt pop up automically

S8000 has 28mm wide angle 5800 starts at 36mm

hahaha, how abt getiing my S6500fd. Great camera for outdoors and great low light perf. It's 14 mths old and well looked after. Out performs S5800. Upgraded to DSLR

S5800/S5700/S6500FD/S9600/S100FS are all prosumers, not DSLRs. Cannot change lens all fixed.

Dun understand 2nd part of qustion. . .

if u mean manual focus, only S6500fd, S9600 and S100FS can.
