Default PocketWizard Radio Transmitters Banned in SG....

I recently found out that Pocketwizards are banned in SG when I asked Cathay photo how much are they selling one.

Does anyone know why they are banned?

I'm not sure whether is this a sensitive question to ask.

They operate on the same frequency as military/police hardware I believe, or it didnt pass some safety test here, but think it was the first reason

There are lots of photographers using PWs in SG.

A legal alternative said to be very effective are the Elinchrome Skyports.

IDA didn't approve lor.. Either frequency used conflicted with some others or power too high or the people who brought them in didn't submit them for IDA approval. Police/military use digital radios now, so should not be a problem with that. US radio products uses very different frequency allocations, so that might be a problem.

Anyway, do you think those cheapo china made radio triggers are approved?

    Hi,

Dun think its because of the millitary/police hardware issue la.

Main issue i think is because cathay wanna promote their elinchrome skyport la...so stop bringing in PW. PW margin not as good.

In terms of frequency, basically think there are 2 frequency standards body in the world. FCC (US) and CE (Europe, think Singapore also). Most of the PW set are FCC, so that's why no IDA approval. But just like those walkie talkie selling in SLS, they just need to put for export only lo...

So bottom line because cathay wanna earn more money la...
