    Default Cokins filters

Can anyone pls advise? Does the cokins filter cause vignetting on a 17-55mm lens when focal length at 17mm?

I am assuming you are talking about Cokin P filters which are in square pieces and have to slide into an attachment in front of the lens.

It is not that those square filters cause vignetting, but the attachments that you use that can cause vignetting. That is why it is often recommended to use a slim filter for wide angle lenses, and Cokin has one filter attachment for P filters that are for wide angle lenses.

    should not cause visible vignetting

especially if you stop down, i.e. f/8 to f/11 and beyond will do, for 18mm.. even with the normal filter holders
