Default Fujifilm S100FS worth buying?

I saw at the MS Color, they are selling $999 for this great camera. Do you guys think is it worth the price buying? or might as well get an entry-level DSLR?

wow! it's now on sale in S'pore ah.

the S100FS saves the trouble of changing lens and has a zoom range from wide (28mm) to tele (400mm) which can cost alot to achieve that range for DSLR.

One big flaw of this cam is its serious purple fringing. that may be quite disturbing as my S5700 also has this problem.

Frankly, whether it's worth it is a very personal choice.

Pros and cons of a DSLR system vs this camera in your own preference and how deep your pocket is. Some people are more willing than others to spend more money, time and effort in maintaining and using a DSLR.

My only advice is to wait a few months more to see how the camera perform in real life (by those who jump in first and be the guinea pigs) before making the decision. At this moment, we don't have much real life examples and info of its picture quality, focusing speed and focusing accuracy (especially in low light) etc.

I went to MS 2 days ago and the guy there told me S100fs will prob be out end March or early April, Fuji cannot get in time even for the IT show this weekend. Thus i am very surprised to see their promotion poster indeed.

Very tempting, hopefully Fuji can offer something extra this weekend.

hmmmm retail price of SGD $999

with a $100 voucher handy for the accesories.....decent bag extra batts, mem card etc etc

i think they are really going to try and have a piece of the entry level DSLR pie with this offering. however, at a kilo in weight, F5.6 at the tele end(ala mak, the days where the FZ10,20 had 2.8 constants and the s5000 had a 2.8-3.1)

although the colours look good though.
check out the iso 800 shots.......

its a winner of a prosumer, probably the best thing if you are not looking for a DSLR, but the price....

Went to the IT show just now, Fujifilm booth is by Audio House.
S100FS selling for $999. Free:
Soft case
2 x 2Gb SD card
Card Reader
Tripod
Screen Protector
Varta 4 Cells
Cleaning Kit.

I think the MS color in house promo more worth it. The $100 voucher can be used to offset the price.

The voucher can be used immediately to purchase the camera? If that's the case, can consider...

The $100 different the IT show and MS Color is with extra
1 x 2Gb SD card, Card Reader, Tripod, Screen Protector, Varta 4 Cells, Cleaning Kit.

I know tat some might own some of the free gift, is useless to them, so they might think $100 voucher is gd enuf. In term of total gift worth, do u think $100 can buy all?
Anyway what is Varta 4 cells? is the battery brand? 3rd party?

Currently a happy user of the 6500fd. Is it worth upgrading to this at that price?

The hotshoe is most welcome, trade-off for me is that the S100FS no longer using AA batts which is great for travelling.

I called the MS color AMK hub branch, the lady told me that the $100 voucher can be used to offset the price, making it $899.

Good sized camera, without worrying about changing lens. However, tried shooting dark areas, and noise problem, not as good as DSLR. Speed of picture taking...slower than DSLR, other than that, colour of image, image quality is acceptable. Very handy for travelling. Size is just like entry level DSLR.

I tried the continuous shooting mode at the show, its quite descend at 3fps and the good thing is the the screen do not black out during the shooting period, the bad thing is that the writing into the card after that takes quite some time.

Bought the S100fs this afternoon. Was undecided between buying during the IT show or from MS color. In the end, the salesguy promised to offer me a better price and i was won over.

Still charging the battery. How long do i have to charge for the first time? Is it 8~10hrs like handphone batt?

Will try out the camera and post some pictures here if possible.
