Thread: IS technology in Canon. Any alternative in Nikon/Minolta?

Default IS technology in Canon. Any alternative in Nikon/Minolta?

I understand IS technology in new Canon lens is supposed to be a boon to problems of camera shake. Is it really that good or useful?

Does it also reduce motion blur as a result of low lighting?

Are there similar technologies offered in Nikon and Minolta for the IS technology offered by Canon?

motion blur as a result of low lighting
low lighting does not cause motion blur. low lighting just causes the surrounding to be dark.

motion blur is caused by camera shake and/or low shutter speed

Does it also reduce motion blur as a result of low lighting?
I.S. does not reduce motion blur.

all I.S. does is to use electronics to counter-compensate for camera shake so that the amount of bluring caused by camera shake is reduced. sometimes it is reduced to the point that bluring is effectively eliminated.

similar technology: VR by NIKON (vibration reduction)
