Hi
I am wondering which is the commonly used/prefered format? PEF or DNG I intend to use Lightroom for processing but I think those who use it will know it will import the file and convert to DNG format (hope I am right) I have tried to get some of the PEF file import in, it seem working fine. Wondering is there any different if I was to import a DNG file instead of PEF? |

I use PEF also as I use the Pentax software almost all the time.
DNG or PEF should not have any difference in final output when process under the same parameters. |

Now I use JPG when I'm shooting w/ the K20D, seems pretty good so far
I do use RAW (PEF) when I'm shooting w/ K10D. |

There is no such things as difference of quality between PEF and DNG. As the camera is used as well by Samsung, Pentax choosed to use DNG as well that Samsung does not use "officially" PEF format they still have a RAW format. I guess this is the reason. PEF is smaller in size than DNG, that's just a loseless compression stronger with PEF than DNG.
I use usually DNG as it's a standard format. |
