    Is the camera fast enough?

    1. Direct flash is too harsh on face. Try diy diffuser such as tissue paper and tape.
    2. There will be a shadow cast on the right side of your subject. You need an overhead bounce flash (although not applicable for all kinds of ceiling)
    3. Red-eye effect. Try choosing Scene mode and set to Party. This will activate redeye + slow sync (for capturing background), but make sure u got stable hands as the shutter is 1/8 secs i think.

To achieve bokeh, u can use software.
My FZ18 software mediaimpresson got this feature to blur background.
Otherwise, you just need to open up ur aperture.

Last but not least, a wide angle lens will be good for you if there is space constraint for the photographer.
But make sure u use external flash if you are using wide angle lens, otherwise, there will be a shadow cast on the subject.
The flash powerful and fast enough or not?

Ask the GOH and recipient to hold still for you to take the 2 photos. Next thing you know is the ceremony over-run and your colleagues curse and swear at you for dragging the ceremony. Then you can blame your boss for not buying a DSLR.

I'm not sure how many people really take awards presentation ceremony before for making suggestion.

If TS really follow all this suggestions, sure die until very ugly.

boss also funny, awards presentation photos won't be a award winning photo, and really asking too much from TS.

well, with the FZ8, its a case of technical limitations.

i would advise, shooting at half tele, smallest possible F value, pre-focus on the guest of honour to get the lense in that general range so when they recipient comes into view it focusses slightly faster.

if they are all coming in from the same direction, a monopod might help with the slower shutter speeds(if not, find a wall to lean against for stability)

    lots of luck!

bump iso.....only if the shutter speeds are REALLY slow, and get the WB correct!

good luck, hope your boss is satisfied!
