Default 24mm pc vs 85mm pc

just gotten my hands on a 24mm pc.

since i shoot more of portraits, will the 85mm pc be more suitable?

after tilting to max, will the 85mm gives me more bokeh compared to the 24mm?

btw, it's a seriously ugly lens.

Since you're using D3, 85mmPC should be better for portraits.

btw, how much you pay for the 24pc?

So u got the 24mm PC in the end :P
PM me the price too.

The bokeh of the 85mm PC is not pleasing compared to say the 85mm1.4.
If you examine the out of focus areas, it is pretty harsh and there is actually abit of lateral distortion / stretching in the blurred areas.

I do not know of the new 85mm PC-E version though.

as said, i really duno how much it cost yet.i guess my brother will only collect $ from me when his' cc bill comes.

also, i really only bought this lens AFTER i saw your cambodia pics.really love it.:thumbs up:

yes...i know bokeh will lose to 85 1.4 which i have too.
but of course, i'm comparing apple with apple in this context.
having the 85mm pc will save me some photoshop time if i really want the selective focusing effect.

the new 85mm not out yet wor....

pc lens for shooting portraits? it's cumbersome and impractical, in my view.

Actually i would love to get the 24mm PC . . My crop sensor is making my 85mmPC overly too telephoto for landscape.

I saw the gallery of a dedicated T/S portraiture shooter before , you can get really beautiful but niche shots from the play in selective focusing

you are the king of pc lens.of course you will get one.

btw, your shift mechanism tight or loose?
mine seems kind of loose...
i dont dare overtighten the lock screw though.

For my 85mm PC I usually tighten the locking screw just enough to keep the adjusted tilt/shift from sliding... I dun overtighten it cause Oracle keep telling me horror stories of very lose 85mmPC lenses whenever i see him ..

My other PC lens got different mechanism no worries of losening

I would love to take it from you if the price is too good to resist. The TS-E 24mm is my most used lens and I'm sure it will be the same for the Nikkor.

I don't see why you would be using the 24 PC to shoot portraits, 85 would be better and I have in fact shot portraits with it before.

The bokeh can sometimes become clunky but because of the tilting you can achieve quite interesting effects with it.

I use my 85 very often for table top product photography as well, that's where I feel it excels the most.

The 85PC would be better for the specialized portraits whereas the 24PC would be more suitable for architecture shots where you'd need to get more of a building in at closer ranges. I'm waiting for mine to come in to do some altered-perspective architecture shots that I could not achieve with the 85PC.

BTW, the lens is also available in SG but shops are asking SG$3,100 for it. I've got one on order at a much lower price since I can wait.

Yeah.. You'll probably underutilize the PC-E 24/2.8 if you don't shoot much architecture. The Micro PC 85/2.8 is just as ugly and more difficult to use because you'll need to close down the aperture manually. If you're not doing a lot of product shoots where you need to control DoF, just stick with 85/1.4.

Using Scheimpflug effect to achieve DoF doesn't work very well on humans because the face is not flat.

i'll wait for the new 85 pc then.it should work with automatic aperture just like the 24mm.

as much as i think i will underutilise this lens...i think it's a fun lens to own.
prob will come in useful when i go for tours and shooting architecture.

one thing i wish they have on this lens...zoom.
prob 24-85mm pc f2.8.

lovely.

btw, can these lens' effects be easily photoshoppable?
cos afaik, cs3 can do perspective correction isnt it?
