Totally agree with you bro. One more things about the buildings, the noise could be so loud that it could shatter the glass windows. Then we will have problems with debris.. err.. what flag ah? Forgot leow
Thanks for your support bro seankyh, yeah I register just to post this cos I am not a clubsnap or photography fan but this was the only singapore forum that google managed to find as I was trying to find local forums where there are fellow Singapore F1 marshals and this website was the only one where there is a discussion from those singaporeans who were selected.

A word of WARNING to all F1 marshals: those puny ear plugs that you use in army are NOT SUFFICIENT, I say again, those small piece of rubber that you use for swimming is NOT SUFFICIENT to protect your hearing from permament damage.

I foresee that alot of naive volunteers is going to suffer irreversible hearing damage on the race day. Alot of these volunteers are very naive and have never heard or attended a real F1 race before, they think they can tahan the noise, but I will tell you this - alot of people on that day, including all the Singapore Police Force and Civil Defencse force people on duty as well as all the innocent spectators who are going to turn up unprepared for the onslaught of EXTREME AND PERSISTENT HIGH DECIBEL NOISE up close....all these people will have their hearing damaged permanently if they think that ear plugs are good enough, especially those who are going to stand close to the action.

You will need to wear ear muffs IN ADDITION to ear plugs. Anything less than that is going to put yourself in danger of permanent hearing damage. Singapore is the FIRST highly built up urban outdoor street circuit in F1 race history. The level of noise is going to be UNPRECENDENTED, the acoustic reverberation and echoing throughout the entire bisness district is going to be VERY VERY VERY VERY (times 1000) LOUD

I am not trying to be negative, but Singaporeans are very naive and I can foresee that a huge majority of these inexperienced volunteers are going to find out too late on race day that not only is the job highly dangerous, but they will realise that they will be mentally and phsygolocically unprepared for the actual conditions that they will find themselves in on 26-28 Sept. I pity all the naive female volunteers who think that it's going to be a fun thing and will turn up on race day with cute dainty shoes and just a pair of ear plugs (or horror..none at all!)

I say again, all of you volunteers MUST pressure the organisers to provide EAR MUFFS. Let the police officers and civil defence people go deaf, they are paid to do the job, but F1 marshals ARE NOT, so ear muffs MUST be supplied to all F1 volunteer marshals.

Please don't be stupid and organise MO to purchase anything. Whatever we need to do the job MUST BE SUPPLIED by organisers. All of you must stand up and talk about this before it is too late.

I think you should write in to the management of this event, perhaps your letter will make them realise that this is important

one would think that the management will be keen to prevent any lawsuits brought against them too...

For those who dunno what EAR MUFF is...here is a pic

Those who want to garang and walk around with no ear muffs are just asking for permament hearing damage. Once your hearing is damaged, it can never be healed again. Hearing loss is permanent and irreversible.

So all F1 vounteer marshals take note...very important, this job is only for 2 days, not worth taking away any injuries(hearing or whatever) or worse, lose your life because of it.

Once that first carbon fibre shrapnel flys past your face, all that talk about doing it for the passion and all that bullshiit goes right out the window.

Singaporean have short memory. The rest of the world will just forget about your injury or death and everything will be back to normal on 29 Sept, while you alone will have to bear the burden of your 'passion'. So all Singapore F1 volunteer marshals, don't be be naive about what you are getting into..this is not simply about 'passion' or doing it just 'for fun', but your life, your health and your family who will have to live with the consequences should anything happen to you between 26-28 Sept. It is your right to ask to be adequately protected by the organisers.

All of you must stand up, otherwise the organisers will think they can get away with asking volunteers to fork out own money to buy everything themselves. This is just stupid and gives fuel to the critics who are already saying that it is stupid to volunteer free for a event that generates millions and millions of dollars in revenue.

All volunteers, please don't make yourselves look even more stupid.

kiasi, I've posted your comments in post #135 into the volunteers forum (in verbatim, minus the ***). Hope you don't mind. I can take it down if you are not comfortable with my posting.

Good job, Canew bro, why should i mind when people are silently nodding their heads and agreeing with me in their hearts? My aim in voicing this out is not only for my own safety and welfare but also for the safety and welfare of all the bros and sisters who are going to do Singapore proud for this historic F1 race.

We will perform like professionals, but only if we are treated like professionals in terms of equipment support and marshal safety and welfare. I am sure we will shine and this F1 will run smoothly and all of us will be proud of each other. You cover me, I cover you, and we will all come back safely to our families when all this is over. That is the most important thing. We can only have fun if the organisers take care of our personal protection equipment needs and leave us to to do our respective jobs professionally

I just found out that a F1 volunteer marshal was killed by a flying tyre in Australia, here is the video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSRos...eature=related

All Singapore volunteer marshals please be wear all your safety gear at ALL times, and make sure your eyes are protected, those carbon fibre shrapnel are capable of piercing your eyeball, I'm not joking. Look at the video and see the incredible speed in which all the debris is flying towards the crowd and marshals.

So all volunteers please look after all your fellow buddy marshals whose lives may depend on you on race day. This is not a game but a serious job with extreme high risk.

Here's something very informative for all Singapore F1 volunteer marshals, all of you must read this, it's a glossary of all the terms used in F1 and it also explains what F1 is all about, for those who know nuts about F1. Very informative:

1pm - 5pm, the prime period of the day, effectively burn the entire weekend Those who drive have to pay own parking somemore, not cheap man, smu carpark...

So who's going to attend the 30 Aug do? Any chance it's going to be a Ritz Carlton affair? Or just a ngeow cost cutting meal with some cakes, donuts and milo?

Being a Singapore F1 volunteer marshal is not going to be the fun and exciting thing that alot of the naive girls who volunteered think it's going to be. Look at these photos and imagine how the actual conditions will be like on 26-28 Sept. It's not a bed of roses.

In particular, look at the space between the fence that you will be spending your time for the entire duration of the 61 laps as a marshal. Oh yeah, toilet will be the porta loos you see in the pictre

You have been warned. Fun is going to be the furthest thing from your mind...during the hot day time, you will be sweating like a pig inside your long sleeve overalls under the blazing sun with virtually no shade, and at night, well...if it rains, GOOD LUCK! The only person who will be with you in that small confined space will be your buddy marshal, so better start smiling more and make friends with him on 30 Aug. Or it's still not too late to back out now...
