Default Vivitar UWS: Which film to use?

Hi everyone!

I am totally new to this and I apologize in advance if my question has been asked before.

I've just placed an order for a Vivitar UWS and I'm really excited to try it out! May I ask if there is any film which I can use to achieve results like these:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tae2210jan/66632728/

I'm not sure how to describe it ... pastel-ish feel?

If anyone could help me out, I'll be really grateful! And again, thanks in advance

it kinda depends on the kind of light you are shooting in, but you might want to try the kodak portra films

Because I'm hoping to achieve that particular effect but I'm not sure if there are any specific films which I can use to produce that effect ...

Sorry if I asked a dumb question ... But like I said, I'm very noob to this :P

not really, but anyways, if that was your point from the start, wouldn't it be better to state it in your first post?

vintage11: btw, for some film examples, flickr groups is a good place to look

Woke up on the wrong side of bed?

Although the film does play a part in achieving a certain look. The camera itself does play a part as well.
The pictures you showed has a certain depth of field and blur thats not so easily achieved with the vivitar UWS.
Just enjoy your new toy and shoot lots. you will roughly get what i mean

from experience with the vivitar

you will not be able to get such a soft feel direct from camera

it will be there, to a certain extent, you can see my shots here to see what i mean.. but not to that degree that is exhibited in the examples you have posted up. the vivitar is relatively sharp actually, if you ask me, for a lomo cam. note the use of relatively in case someone comes and ask me whether it is as good as canon mark diii

just try a range of film, it is still relatively cheap in singapore cmpared to say, london.. and most importantly , shoot and have fun. lomography is just as much as the shooting as it is about the results.

if you must have a soft feel, then the best advice is to snap damn impromptu-ly.. then will have motion blur which will soften the picture. i always get most of my softer photos when i snap while walking without stopping. but don't go bananas and shake the camera hor.

this is taken when stopped:

when walking:

more important to get exposure right first.. i'm not even sure if those pictures you posted are directly from film.. might have been further processed in photoshop.

Thanks for the explanation and the photos accompanied with it ... they're very cool! I was just curious if the Vivitar can produce that particular effect (don't know why I have a natural liking for it) but I'll definitely try to be more adventurous and just have fun using different types of films

Thanks once again!
