Unhappy Problem with Nikon D200

I just got a 2nd hand D200. When I mount my SB800, its flashes twice right after I take a shot... and as i move the cam to a different point it will flash and focus automatically..
Hope someone here can enlighten me on how to "off" the function... as I dun encounter this with my D70S.. so i think its the D200 settings..pls advise!

Sounds like a problem that I encountered a long time ago with my D100 and SB-80DX. Probably some electronics may have gone awry in the D200.

Try using an eraser and clean the contacts on both the flash and D200's hotshoe. If the problem persists, it appears that a trip down to Nikon Service Centre would be in order.

this is a known issue of D200 with SB800, send both to Nikon Service Centre to tighten the hotshoe.

Sorry, I have no idea is there any issue about D200 with SB80DX,
I encounter self firing problems for my D200 with two SB800 last year, sent to Nikon Service Centre to get it fixed, I know of many D200 users also encounter the same problem with SB800.

After spending sometime figuring out what's wrong, I noticed that the hot-shoe plate of the flash is NOT flat. Did any1 notice that? And did any1 also notice that when u mount the flash on the cam, it rocks a little fwd and aft. This is y the unintended flashes come about, intermittent contacts when u move the cam about.
I pasted two tapes on the flash hot-shoe plate. I'll post a pic on what I did for all reference.
At least to me, no more uncommanded flashes!
I'll be back!

Are those conductive copper/brass tape or normal plastic insulation tape? Can't quite tell from the picture...

just tried, using normal scotch tape. put 1 layer on both side. find that not that "fitting". so put a 2nd layer and its much better

tip there bro rexlim!!

Hi rexlim,

Why didn't I think of that ???

Thanks a lot. Will definitely try this out because there won't be any permanent damage.

Three cheers.

I agree with this opinion, happened to me before. Seems like the hotshoe of your D200 is loose. Pay NSC a visit to get it fixed. Hand them both the body and flash so they could confirm the fault.
