hi guys, I'm planning to go to Japan sometime in the near future. Would a 40D body be cheaper there as compared to Singapore and Hong Kong? Any idea how much it would cost?

I was in Japan recently. Prices are not that much lower than Singapore and you have no warranty for camera bodies.

Not very sure, but I use http://www.kakaku.com to check price in JPN.
Cheapest in JPN for 40D is ¥104,780 ~ < 1400SGD. You may also try http://www.pricejapan.com, they will buy with cheapest price (from Kakaku) and charge you some service fee. In this case, it will be 107,923 ~ 1420SGD. Still cheaper than in SG. P.S: i have never bought camera from pricejapan, but last time it worked well for Japanese PDAs. Good luck! If you are in Tokyo, the place to go to buy electronics/cameras etc. is Akihabara. See the link below for further info. It's got some info about the major shops in the area too.

i use kakaku.com to find the prices. remember to note that some shops accept only cash transaction. their prices are much lower than some shops in JP. it was tough finding atm that accepts non-JP cards..

HI,
Planing to buy a lens and ixus when i go japan. For the lens i can just put it on my 400D and use so not a problem. But for the ixus, i wanna give it to someone as a gift. Will i be taxed when i get back here? Was thinking of flatenning the box and put it in my luggage. But if i declare, what will i be charged? I read somewhere that GST is liable for goods above $400. But i checked the ixus is only going for about $370+. Anyone can help me where to find the info i need or has anyone brought digicam from overseas and brought it back here? Thanks
