Default Nikon Prime WA - 20mm, 24mm, 28mm

Been using a 35mm f/2 on my D70. Hope to get a wider lens for indoor group shot and for light travel during vacation.

Which of the 3 WA prime lens will you recommend? Any idea on their performance in terms of resolution, contrast, colour reproduction, flare?

Thanks.

I am intent to go for 20mm, because fx 20mm = dx 30mm already.
don't have solid reason.

I suggest you get something as wide as possible.

Same reasoning, the cropped sensor will make the field of view seemingly less wide.

There are some reviews claiming the old AFD 20mm to be not optimized for the digital format compared to the newer lenses such as the 17-55 for example. However depending on how nit picky, i am happy with my copy.

If you wish to stick to a prime, you can go for the 20mm 2.8
The 17-50mm Tamron can be a good alternative to that.

A sigma 10-20 is a cheaper option. Or if you want something faster Nikon 14-24 is a better deal i think.

The ultra-wide lenses will create serious distortion issues. This is especially detrimental when shooting indoor group shots, as in the ts's case.

It really depends on what you will be using it for. For landscapes and travel the sigma 10-20 is a pretty good choice. For more on what this lens can do

Thanks for all your inputs!

I'll start looking for a used Nikon 20mm. 12-24mm will be really nice if not for the cost.

The Nikon 12-24 isn't good for group photos. The corners has quite a bit of rectilinear projection distortion. Do you have the kit lens? If so, that lens is pretty good for travel, otherwise you might want to consider the new 16-85VR.

If prime is your cup of tea, then the Sigma 24/1.8 isn't too bad.
