Noticed I have 2 dead pixel only in DX Mode.
FX mode is completely normal. Is there something wrong with my D3 image sensor? Time to go NSC? ![]() |

If possible, show the picture so that we can advise better. Nevertheless, within the warranty period, can still go to service centre to rectify the problem.

was told by Nikon Service Engineer that there is no need to replace Sensor.
Only need software re-mapping. Result will be as good as no dead pixel... Is it true??? |

Yeah software remapping will be able to solve the problem.

Dun quite understand.
If software can fix the issue, then how come my previous Fuji S5 Pro dead pixel, they changed the whole sensor for me? And will it result in more dead pixel in future? I am worried cos this is a heavy investment... |

And one more thing, are all camera sensors totally free of dead pixel?
Or is it that some are too tiny to be noticed? And what is the exchange or replacement policy of Nikon for dead pixel from sensor? |

Like what lsisaxon had said, software mapping does not rectify the dead pixel. Rather it approximate from the neighbouring pixels what the dead pixel should represent.
I am not too sure about this but u need to have 3 dead pixels to warrant a replacement? U should demand for a sensor replacement. |

Also, do note that when the cameras come off the production line and undergoing final qc, they are checked for dead/stuck pixels and the dead/stuck pixels are remapped. So even a new camera out of the box may already have had pixels remapped. But I wouldn't worry too much about it - 1, 2 or 3 pixels remapped out of 12 million is an extremely small number.

Thanks for all your help.
Actually I had a good look at a shot I took with the lens cap on before I send the camera for repair. I do notice there are many smaller and fainter dots littered on the black backdrop. Are they all dead pixels??!!?? If they are, then I have easily more than 5... I am very sad... what to do...??!!?? ![]() |

How many seconds exposure did you take? What ISO? If the exposure is longer than 1s, then those are not hot or dead pixels. Hot or dead pixels will not change in intensity regardless of your exposure time. Last edited by lsisaxon; 27th February 2008 at 10:28 AM. |

Oh I see.
I only notice 2 hot pixel regardless of exposure time or ISO speed. The rest are variable. So I assume there is only 2 hot pixel in my set? |

In addition, can anybody offer an explanation why the dead pixel only appear in DX mode?
In FX mode, the pic is perfectly normal and clean. |

I believe only NSC can explain the differences on FX and DX mode and how the relationship of the pixel in both mode.
