Thread: Worst Airshow I have been!

I think we should cut the organisers some slack... I feel that this time the amount of people turning out on public day was much greater then the previous Asian Aerospace... And People were sitting all around having "picnics" which is a breech of safety rules.

The Asian Aerospace 2006, I still can walk around the exhibits quite freely but this time everywhere I go got human jam. Thankfully I already went on the trade day.

When the SOC officers take action I guess it won't be nice.... I think the organisers should restrict the number of tickets that can be sold... Too many people at the site causes headache for security, first-aiders and participants...

Sounds like a horrific experience from those who went.
I had to work so had to give away my tickets

Anyway, about all this mess, I'd say it was a vicious cycle.
The factors of kiasuism, mediocre planning, poor enforcement officers, and,
especially, the short 2 day duration for public attendance.

Trying to cramp so many visitors in 2 days is quite impossible.
The secluded location made it worst, and that piled on
when you use staff who 'just follow orders and dont want to make life
any harder than it is for themselves'.

Overly passionate staff/enforcers may get into trouble with
'Singapore Complain Kings'. So staff keep quiet.

Quiet Singaporeans allow others to take advantage of the system
and expect the staff to enforce.

The Vocal Singaporean make noise, but at the wrong person. They normally
attack the pidgeon, (who happens to be a good staff onsite)

The organiser just kicks himself for not seeing this.
At the end of the day, tells himself he will resign.
The sooner you get it, the longer you enjoy it.

Maybe a few photos would reinforce that planning, infrastructure and execution were issues to be addressed.

At about 9am, I noticed that the queue have already been extended from the bus-stop to WhiteSands Mac.

We went on queue at about 9.20am and guess what. In 20min, the queue have already snaked around the Pasir Ris MRT and have to join the queue at the traffic junction beside Mac.

But I must emphasis that even when the queue was long, it was orderly and smooth at that time.

It just a mass of human traffic.

But by the time I boarded a bus... the queue was longer by quite a lot.

It just shows that buses at single boarding point isn't going to clear the human traffic fast enough. Multiple boarding points (I observed such planning in the last Navy's Open house at Changi) would be more efficient.

And when disembarked at the exhibition area, clearly the screening process isn't fast enough to clear the crowds that were brought in by the buses.

To make matters worse, the walkway only allows 1 single line of queue with not much barrier to control traffic flow. As you can see in the above pic, those queuing on the right can easily jumped queue had they just step up, I've even seen people simply cut the queue at the entrance of the registration tent, especially those arriving by taxis, they just simply walked into the registration tent since there's a direct path. It's a problem waiting to happen.

I didn't take any pics in the registration tent as I was getting ready for security. What I observed was that those barricades are only extended to half of the tent. The other half of the tent is just empty spaces and marshals are trying to get the crowd to "snake" around empty spaces... sure very tempting for people whom have queued for that past 1+ hours to jump at any opportunities. This would be compounded when the aerial show is about to start and everyone is still in queue.

Leaving the location was simply a mess..

Again there was no barrier to contain the queue and coupled with quite a few of queue cutters the mood gets black pretty fast even on such a bright day.

And again, single boarding point isn't clearing the human traffic fast enough. I've seen little kids suffering in the queue and simply dazed out for being squeezed on all sides. Those with prams are simply stuck. And I also see a guy literally dragging his girlfriend onto a bus as she seems KOed.

For those whom says that those marshals ain't doing their jobs... have you seen what happened when they tried to enforce some sanity into kiasuism? You wouldn't want queue jumpers to be treated like rioters, would you?

Nice captures, CYRN bro. I was inside 香港茶餐厅. Saturday was a complete mess. I asked a staff (an Indian guy who was obviously 'dua jit cheng' by a shortage of staff) a stupid question where the queue's starting point was. Of course, he was blurred out mentally and told me to search for it around the interchange. What interchange?! The queue point was around the corner of the mall after several twists and turns!

Some people questioned why they wouldn't let people board more buses all at once. This is for safety reason because one by one they can control. If you allow everybody to board the empty buses all at once, some people of course would jump queue and there would be pushes and fights.

Anyway, let's forget the matter. I think the organizer know their problems and have apologized to the public.

OT a bit, haha, I see our CS friends! ^^

The fact is 'They' know the amount of people going since i heard its a sell out for the saturday so they don't have excuse for the mess at Pasir Ris and CEC ,its a $20 price tag not free event. They let free shuttle bus, paid aircon coaches,SBS buses, taxis, private vehicle going to the site and not to forget those freight forwarders big trucks squeezing into the already jam pack 2 lane road all the way to the CEC, omg what are they thinking??? 'They' provide many ways to get there but whats the end result?? Major Nightmare, i really don't enjoy standing on the bus for 1 hour really!!!!

Never Never Never I will go to any show again, the crowd is unexplainable, the queues are totally out of control. It took me about 2 hrs in Paris Ris queue before getting onto a bus. Man inside the bus is also out of control, all people just like sardines each other trying to go to the air show.

When we almost reaching there, the roads a jam, right from the outside, again you can see the crowd, as some of them said, most taxi passenger get out of the taxi before reaching the main entrance.

Now at the main entrance, we still have to queue to get scan and bag x-ray, still can see people rushing to get into the airshow. By the time I reach the area where you can see the show, it like a pool of colorful sardines, no where to stand and look at the display. I though I can forget about the aerial display, in fact is also very disappointing when you see the static planes, most of the planes are all gone, I don't even have a change to see the A380 static display, seem like we only have one A380 which is flying in the air and no more for display.

Getting into the hall to see the exhibits is also a disappointment, most of the exhibits are gone. In the end I get so disappointed that I wanted to get out of that place, again to my horror, the queue is worst then Paris Ris. People are rushing to get out, and most of them are trying to squeeze through the crowd, tell me what is queue system when come to this kind of exhibits. So in the end I went to the private coaches and I though it will be better manage, and the outcome is the same.

So leaving at 3:45pm I manage to get into the coach at 4:25 and reach town at 4:50pm, oh man what an experience.

I think the F1 and Youth game will be the same and when the days come I know where I should be, AT HOME. We should have a better control on the crowds before the F1 and Youth if not it will be a disappointment.

We're on the ground up and running and the feedback seems to be falling on deaf ears as spin doctors have come upon us today in the Straits Times newspaper. Everything was okay on Sunday and I was pissed off when I read that there are many people taking the "free" shuttle bus to Pasir Ris interchange.

We've paid $20, have to stand in the bus and was rushing and fleeing like a refugee to take a bus to another country. This paid event was total chaos when compared to the RSAF, Navy and Army open house that I've attended recently.

The Police SOC personnel who were controlling the bus boarding was shouting don't run and slowdown but it had a reverse effect. Woman and parents with children were made to walk at the far end for the so called free shuttle service.

They acutally wanted to use red smoke. But during the test last year, the red smoke contaminated the veges around the farms and need to pay S$100K to the farmers.
