Hi all,
It seems Canon is about to have a cash back promotion in Europe and US. It will start on March 1st. Is there the same thing planned in Singapore? Here are the cash back promotions for Europe:

Zero chance of this ever happening.

I believe USA just ended the promotion, as I bought my 70-200 f4 IS just a few days ago with cash up front rebate and now ended.

That's a pity.
If you take out the GST and compare, Singapore is currently one of the place where the 5D is currently the most expensive. You will find it in Hong Kong and US around 2,800 SGD. And now even Europe will be cheaper. I noticed the same weird phenomenon for Printers too. So what is Canon doing? |

Ripping you off...haha
100mm/2.8 macro for US$400...which is like S$572. Try getting a 2nd hand one for $572 in Singapore...almost impossible. $650 and it'll be snapped up in 5 minutes. |

I was in the vivocity Canon shop 10 minutes ago.
The guys are still displaying the 5D at 4,200 sgd. They clearly say they know they are more expensive than other countries. they knew about the promotion in europe and do not know if there will be any in Singapore. Not the best way to keep a good image ... |

Prices shown above are rebates..
for eg Canon Speedlite 580EX II 50€ you buy a 580EXII and you get 50 euros "discount" from canon lor.

£1,860.00 .. then with £200 off, becomes £1,660.00, which becomes around SGD4589 for a 5D body after cashback. HOR HOR. Singapore still winners! |

Of course this is the RRP price but still. I guess that today in Singapore you will find the 5D around 3,800 SGD. which means something like 3,550 SGD before GST.
Cameta shop on ebay (USA) is selling at 2,050USD (ard 2,880 SGD). Adorama (USA) is at 2,100USD (ard 2,950SGD). Amazon (USA) is at 2,100USD too. In Europe, Pixamania.com proposes it at 1,740EUR still before tax (ard 3,626SGD). And the cash back promotion comes in March which means that it should sells at 3,209SGD. In HK, public price is 18,800HKD (ard 3,390SG) but you can find it at 14,900HKD (ard 2,686SGD): http://www.ygdragon.net/index.php?pa...ameraprice.htm. So are people winners in Singapore? I feel quite bad because I would love to buy my stuff at John for instance but the difference is too much. Apparently Canon does not want to make their life/business easy. |

I see many people on the forum talking about taking a trip to HK to buy camera and accessories. Here, it's common to buy equipment online from Hong Kong. Do people in Singapore do that?

yup..i do that...
usually consolidate orders from a couple of friends and go there for 3-4 days. imagine you save $200 for each lens or body you get. get 2 or 3 and you have a free holiday to HK! i got a new nikon 60mm macro lens, ENEL-3 battery, and B+W filter for the same price from HK as the macro lens alone in B&S. |

Canon SG does offer a rebate of $20 for their MP145 Scanner + Printer which is going ard $149.
So i guess its just limited to what Canon SG wants to give. |
