Hello all
I'm thinking of getting the D300 and fitting it with the Nikon 18-200mm lens. I read about the fact that the early batches of these lenses suffered from creeping. Does anyone know if the current batches would still have this problem? i.e. now creep no longer an issue? Or is this just something I have to live with if I get this lens? Thanks in advance. I'm a new user and hope this question wasn't too dumb. |

creeping is where the lens barrel shifts up or down due to it's own weight.
for example, if i set it to 70mm it may slide down to 60 50 untill it stops. See it here. http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Ni...mm/page7.shtml |

Get used to it and live with it if you need the flexiblity of the wide range 18-200mm.
Of course the built quilty will not be as good as the prime lens. I have mounted and used the 18-200mm len all the time when travelling overseas since I do not want to carry too many lens due to the overall weight. |

Hi,
I read a lot about the zoom creep about this beautiful. Seems like it is not a "problem", rather a phenomenum due to the structure of this lens. ![]() Wondering if this creeping action affecting the focal length during focusing & shutter release? Also, does it means that while having long exposure on a tripod, the lens will creep if it is a sharp perspective angle? In this case, how to fix the focal length during the entire exposure time? ![]() Cheers ! ![]() |

I believe this lens is meant for people who wants to travel light and will not even bother about bringing a tripod. ![]() |

I heard they made a manufacturing change a few months ago, changing some plastic part internally, which reduces creep. I can't find anything online to support this though.

this lens is all about convenience i love it, jus think it suffers in optical quality haha. the lens creep pisses me off quite abit, but for the convenience, it's okay. |
