Hi everyone,
Im thinking to get a 2nd Nikon lens 80-200/f 2.8 AFD ED (pull & push, not IF lens). It about 8 year old but condition still good. Anyone can enlighten me some information about this lens in term of shaness, AF function? Is this OK with the price of 900SGD for this lens? I can come down to test but I've never got any experience about expensive lens & also no other similar lens to compare. |

if u have no need for VR, the 80-200 is still a pretty good buy. i used to have the 2-touch version - essentially the same as the push-pull in all aspects except for replacing the push-pull focusing tube to the normal focusing ring. had to give it up becos i'm terrible at maintaining the steady hold.
![]() push-pull 80-200 has a problem with dust becos of the design. not likely to affect images unless the insides of the lens looks like it been to Desert Storm.

$900 for the push pull is pretty steep? Top up 100-200 to get the 2 touch version. At least its newer technology plus it comes with tripod color. But quality of these glasses not much difference.

still, i found the push-pull design a little faster when zooming in and out, compared to the ring-focus. the 80-200 push-pull design is the same as the 35-70/2.8, forerunner to the 28-70/2.8 and 24-70/2.8. but, dats just me. ![]() regardless, the 80-200 is a good value-for-money alternative to the 70-200VR, doesn't matter which version.

The optical design is the same for the 2 touch, so if the one-touch sucks in dust, the 2 touch would do the same. So far no problem with mine. There are 2 versions of the one-touch also. One is with a rotating front thread, the newer version has a non-rotating front thread.

1-touch or push-pull is the version where there is only 1 ring. By pushing the ring forward or backwards along the lens barrel gives the zoom and turning that ring gives the focusing. There are 2 versions of this 1-touch / push-pull lens, one with D and another without. |

Just my $0.02 or less worth, I bought the two touch version with the tripod collar as I tried the one touch one before and found that it couldn't balance on one of my lighter weight tripod. However, the optics are pretty hard to tell apart. The tripod collar might really come in handy.

Thanks for explaination. I bought a 2nd hand 2 touch version 80-200mm lens with 3 months warranty and it cost me $1100. Very very new one, seldom used. Quiet worth at least I think. haha
