download straight to my Vosonic before I edit it on computer, so nowadays, i hardly connect and transfer direct. However, I don't think the transfer rate is slower, cause I am only using a 6MP D50 and there is no problem with battery either.

Portable storage is so much easier in the field.

If you have a recent camera model, chances are that they will have a USB 2.0 connection. for these cameras, the transfer rate will not be slow if you connect the camera directly to the computer.

However, there are external UMDA USB/Firewire card readers from card makers such as Sandisk, Lexar and Transcend etc which are much faster than the normal USB 2.0 readers.

BTW, I use a UMDA card reader.

card reader. in fact, in my main camera bag, there is always a card reader in it. never liked the idea of opening the rubber flaps, thereby causing more wear and tear on easily movable parts (yes I am that pedantic. bad experience!)

    Use the card readers....

the cable connectors are built onto the mainboard of the camera, not good to fiddle with that too much.

Always use memory card reader. Lazy to take the USB cable out.

Memory card reader for me. More convenient than using a cable.

Card reader, cause I usually end up with more than one full CF card at the end of shooting.
