What is TFCD?
i am another inexperienced "model wannabe" ![]() read through: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322475 very sure i'm one of those boring models who keeps repeating the same poses. still, i believe one improves after different experiences. i figured the first thing i need would be a portfolio but i have no idea which photographer would be able to bring out the kind of ME i hope others see from my pictures. BUT, i quite like this photgrapher's work. http://alvinz.myphotoalbum.com/view_...album51&page=1 ![]() Have to admit, that i'm actually quite big size. shoe size: 9 or 10 would that be a problem? another question, Are plus size models popular in Singapore? My budget for a portfolio, $80 can get or not? I was approached by a Model agency 2 years ago. was told to pay more than a $100 to get a portfolio done, a MUST if i'm interested in joining. after which, they'll include my pictures into a booklet with other models' pictures for client's viewing. you get jobs only if your pictures managed to catch the client's attention. but i didn't go for it, was told that such agencies might be a scam. Advises, please. ![]() Last edited by feng01; 19th February 2008 at 03:20 PM. |

I have nothing to say should you be a model or not, anyway, beside the look, you also need to put in alot of efforts, so it is entirely up to you.
there are many "models wannabe" like you, so are many "photographers wannabe" here. what I can suggests to you is to some have fun to offer some TFCD sessions, after you think modeling is your cup of tea, than you should consider damp some money to create a decent portfolio. cos you also need some have experience in modeling too, spend the money now, you may have good portfolio to show, but you actually still can't deliver what people want if you are being hired. hope this help. |

I wouldnt say most take TFCD offers, especially the pros, it would be highly selective and rare. Even TFCD must have a budget, MUA, studio hire, transportation costs, cd cost, print cost (if applicable) The only thing not being paid for is the models or the photographers time, hence its name. |

Thread moved to Consumer forum. The Photo Biz is not for this type of discussion.

Oh my, I was about to ask the same question!
I'm a shoe size 8/9, UK size 10/12. I'd really love to be a model for outdoor photoshoots. Help, anyone? :/ Oh yeh, another question.. Is there any like.. butch/bung models around? I'm just curious! Haha |

My view on this 'modeling' thing is: modeling is not everything about looking pretty. It's a lot about looking RIGHT for the required photographic purpose.
Modeling is a job where you deliver the looks and style of what the photographer needs. Size does not matter unless it is a prerequisite for the type of shoot. Even actors need all shapes and forms. Sometimes, the ugly ones get more jobs than the pretty ones because there isn't a lot of 'good-looking' ugly actors. To me, a good model is one who understands what style the photographer needs and delivers it well. Of course, the photographer must look for the right model that fits the needs. Having said that, it's obvious that most casual photographers loves to shoot pretty-looking people. So sadly, if you want to get a lot of casual modeling jobs, you have to have the looks. And on the other side of the fence, most good-looking people thinks having good looks is all it takes to be a model. As a photographer, I do get disappointed when I shoot someone good-looking but cannot deliver the style you need. To feng01, it's good of you to realise the need to break out of the mould to find a photographer that can bring out the kind of you that you hope others see from your pictures. You should approach photographers whose styles you think fits your needs and ask them if they would like to collaborate with or help you. If they like to do it for free, good for you. Even if they want to charge, I think it's worth the money. Email them and describe your needs, include reference photos of what you think you want to look like. Some photographers might provide feedback, or refer someone they know to you. To heartsinmotion, you can try asking your last question in the kopitiam sub-forum. |
