Hi.. I bought a camera(fuji s6500) around 2 months ago and I'm very new to photography. Today, I went to ECP and happened to see lion dance performance by one of the troupe. Below is the photo which i took today. C&C are welcome.
![]() In this photo, i tried to capture the lion dance expression but the lion doesn't seem to have any expression. Please give me some tips ![]() I don't have photoshop so i use microsoft office picture manager to darken the picture and increase the contrast. I also did some cropping. Please give me some advice so that i can improve. Big Thanks to fellow CSnappers. |

I'm not exactly sure why you would darken the picture, maybe lighting was poor or a design decision. The black framing doesn't work, the silhouettes of the footing platforms will just confuse anyone who hasn't seen the a lion dance performance before and it's not flattering to have them cut into your subject that way. Expose for the footing platforms and include them into the picture. Try shooting at a 45degree angle as well for depth.

too messy, don't know what you have done with the picture in terms of post processing but whoa, there's a huge mass of black. it looks as if the lion is going to be swallowed by a monster of ink.
of course the lion doesn't have any expression, it's after all, a costume devoid of any humanity. other than the bad post processing job, the photo is tilted i hope you kept the original, try to post it up here and i'm sure people could advise you on what to do with your picture. composition wise, it isn't too bad, even though the lion is centrally located, i find it aesthetically sound. |
