How do I check the shutter count in my Canon 1D mk II? Also, what is the shutter count before it needs changing and how much would it cost?

Can go to Canon Service Centre at Harbour front to check. The cost is about S$350 to change the shutter. The spec say about 150K shutter life. Mine was dead at 50K. James |

There was one batch of 1Dmk2 that had shutter problem. You can use a software called "Cancount" to check the shutter count. I can help you check if you just send me the latest photo taken by that camera.

Shoot a JPG with the camera and open with the free Opanda EXIF reader. Go to the Makernote (Canon) section and look for the 0093 entry.
Mine looks like this: 0093: 18, 0, 3224, 0, 0, 0, 65535, 65535, 0 The two in red are the important ones. Here the red 0 is a multiplier, the 3224 is a counter. Multiply the first number by 65535 and add the second number. Formula would be x1 * 65535 + x2. Here it shows that my shutter count is 3224 ( 0 * 65535 + 3224). Works on 5D, 1D, 1Ds, 1DsMk2, 1DMk2 If you own these camera's no need to pay for Cancount. |
