Default More Canon woes?

http://www.bjp-online.com/public/sho...ml?page=701396

Looks like the brand name Canon is nearly synonymous with poor reliability.

Aiyah, cannot compare the venerable flagship 1DsMk3 with an entry level K10D. Knowing Canon, they are probably trying to delight the pros with a secret "Sensor Tilt and Shift" function that will be activated by a future firmware upgrade. Well done Canon!

undoubtedly canon is going through a rough patch with botched new product features and poor quality control. don't have to compare with anyone, just compare with canon's only previous standards and reputation.

saving grace is ironically nikon, who will benefit most from having more superior products with less hassles, particularly in the sweet spot professional market, because canon is now forced to improve by a quantum leap to regain competitiveness, or die.

i'd expect some executive heads to roll in the canon executive suites.

Seems like it pays to wait before buying cutting edge technology.

You are righto! Camera makers must always make good quality cameras to delight us, even if they are not 1 Series cameras.

While I also use another brand, it is quite costly to duplicate the lenses e.g. maintain 2 different brand of trinity zoom or fast primes. I am waiting for the next great quality problem-free FF cam from Canon. Any advice?

My advice?

Don't hold your breath waiting for a problem free camera. Nobody can guarantee that.

Sorry, I was asking if you have any advice on maintaining lenses for more than 1 brand. Thanks.

Hmmm if everyone in the world have the same thinking....wouldn't no one buy the camera. However, I took some basic in marketing. In the technology world, there will be always the tech freaks who will do watever to get the newest (see the queue for PS3).

Doesnt really matter if the 1st batch have a problem. Sometimes it can be the batches after the first few that have the problems. This can be seen from Olympus example. The first few thousand 12-60 lens do not have any problems. Only the later few batches have some focusing issue.

What matters most is the company's attitude towards the problems. Are they going to sweep it under the blanket or try all out to help the customer in destress solve the problem. Come out with fixs, issue recalls and firmware updates are common.

I still have yet to graduate from the university as an engineer however I do understand the more sophiscated the product is, the more tendercy to have faults. Companies nowadays are forced to produce execellent product at a very low price yet they have to rush the product out due to market pressure. However it takes alot of testing to find problems. Toyota took 3 years to find out there was a design fault in their fuel tank. Sony took 4-5 years to realise there was problems with their CCD design which result in many camera suffering from a CCD distortion issue.

If had Canon launch the replacement for EOS 5D at PMA and in two month, photographers complain of various serious problems, wouldn't it be worst yet many in forums such as dpreview are cursing canon for the fact it did not come out with the 5D replacemnt.

Let give these company a chance to redeem themselves. If they are committed to solving the problems, we should be happy unlike some company who just act dumb. This is my two cent worth. Feel free to comment.

Determine the lenses you want. Get the best lenses each brand offer so they complement each other.

I will take your advice and just buy the 5D replacement the moment it arrives. Problem is I have been holding my breath for it to arrive.

Thanks. That is what I have been doing. Sometimes I do run into difficulties when I do not to carry two bodies.
