Do you already have a lens you can shoot with? If not surely you must get a lens first.

Otherwise how important is the lens to you? Likewise the grip. Do you use portrait orientation often?

I bought the grip first. Didn't look back thereafter. Shot many photos that would otherwise have been difficult to shoot with borrowed lenses such as 75-300 USM, 70-200 f/4L IS, 70-200 f/2.8L.

Right after that purchase I got a 50 f/1.8. See which is more important to you lar.

And what lens are you looking to buy?

I would say the grip first. It makes shooting with the 400D a lot more enjoyable.

i'd say get the lens first
my reasoning... a grip is not going to give you better IQ, it's not going to give you more focal range, it's not going to allow you to get shots you couldnt get before.

yes, it will make shooting more comfortable, but i've shot with a 400d w/o a grip in portrait a lot and it wasnt too bad.

definitely the grip. unless you dont have a lens.

personally i take lots of portrait orientation shots and I prefer the larger grip to hold the camera compared to the original grip in landscape.

Agrees with you. If TS only got a budget to buy either 1 (about $180), then I reckon its better to get the grip first, thereafter the 50mm f1.8. In fact, my BG-E3 never left my 400D less when the cam was sent to CSC for servicing.

lens if i were you. nothing special with a grip besides extra juice and a shutter release. with a lens, your creativity is your limit.

if you are using kit lens and you dun mind that, buy a grip.

But if you wanna make take more photos,
stop worrying about holding the camera and buy lens.

if possible, try to get a grip and 50mm 1.8II, great combo !

I would go for the lens first... no lens no picture... no grip... u still can workaround.

One of the benefits of 400D is its compactness the grip is a luxury esp. when u r shooting in portraits orientation. But again, if that's true. With your budget (i am assuming the BG-E3 range), i feel the 50mm f/1.8II is still better buy than the grip.

Lens first. Even the S$100+ EF 50mm f/1.8 lens is better than a grip.

Get a grip only if you need it.

Bro,

Since you already have a couple of lenses I suggest u go for a grip. It helps greatly with vertical shooting. Only downside is that it adds weight to your combo that's all.

It also expands the height of the camera to accomodate for your last finger for most typical hand sizes. Greatly improves shooting comfort. 400D is a great camera but extremely cramped... very obviously designed for female hands.

Grip for sure ...

Since u have the lens already, just make use of it first. Grip is a wise choice ...

Cheers

err, i think lens is more important, for me getting a SLR camera is for the picture quality i.e. FF or lens. things like grips are like just an additional attachment for more comfort and battries.

but truth be told .. haha it looks more "cool" when the grip attached
So does the feel/look and comfort out weigh getting a great shot with a lens of your choice ?

 since your thinking of the grip, i would say, if you do not neet the lens yet, get the grip and save up for the lens when you need it

2cents hee

What lens are you intending to go for.

Personally I would spend on lenses first, as good optics will improve your images produced, but a good grip improves handling (it may affect your pictures, but not to as great a degree as the lens does) at most.
