Buy a camera when you need one. If you can wait till a "good time" to buy one, you probably don't need it to begin with.....

Anytime's a good time to get a new camera body-- You just need to justify if the amount spent would benefit you more than say.. a couple of lenses or a good L lens.
IMO, unless you're really into action photography (6.5fps vs 3fps, 14bit vs 12bit & better AF), the S$1800 - S$2000 spent on the 40D will help you a lot more if you invest in a great lens, or camera accessories. The 400D isn't a bad camera really.

Better think twice if you are new to photography. See this thread. Screwing up a wedding is screwing up all the memories of one of the best days of two people's lives. |

I'd say lenses are way more important than bodies. But anyway, if you're considering the 40D, ppl are selling them 2nd-hand, and you can get a good mint deal.

Yes, of course, back to topic.
I suppose this has been preached a lot of times, but in the process of waiting for "the good time", you may actually miss a lot of valuable shots. If you need it now, get it now. If the 50D comes out next week, just too bad. Live with what you have. |

Hello guys,
If latest 50D come out soon after Samsung GX20 or Pentax K20D will be released next month or 2 months later respectively, will price of 40D drop down? Bet latest 50D will have at least 14MP and DIGIC III..... blah.... much better than 40D? What do u think? ![]() ![]() Woonsin |

if u already have a camera, then i guess u can afford to wait for 50D. if you don't have a camera right now, i think u don't need one in the first place since u can afford to wait 1 yr for the 50D. ![]() |

the best time to get the 40D is..... right after the release of the 50D.
prices will drop like mad. got my 30D months before the 40D came out. once the 40D came out, boom. prices dropped by $400. oh well. at least now i managed to learn a whole lot more within those months. |

As I said earlier, you can wait all you want, but during that waiting time, you'll waste it not taking photos. Instead, get a camera now, don't worry about the newest and the greatest, and just focus on taking beautiful photos. Simple enough? In any case, 14MP, very good meh?! |

If u are getting board and want something new from a camera, upgrade to 40D straightaway.
I love 6.5FPS in silent mode if i can... ![]() |

Yes it is a good time now to buy 40d. Even better time to buy 30d 2nd hand. The XXd lineup won't see new models in awhile, and 40d prices have settled somewhat already.
I don't believe that there's no bad time to buy cameras. It might be true if you've been living in a cave and you don't own a film camera or a point and shoot. It would for instance be a bad time to buy a 400d now because at its current retail price brand new you are better off waiting for the 450d. But that's just my two cents. Talk is cheap.
