i bought a 28-136mm IS USM from the BnS. I would like to know how can i be sure the IS is working?
I have tried taking pics with and without and sometimes it feels like its working and sometimes it feels like its not. also the lens when used at night , on autofocus does not fire off. after focusing the cammera shutter does not fire off. y? thanks |

If u want to test, shake abit and u can see the image in viewfinder floats. Last edited by JW73; 11th February 2008 at 01:09 PM. |

you'll feel the image is floating in the viewfinder, so subtle that you feel its weird unlike non is lenses.

you should also hear a soft whirling (or is it soft clicking?) sound. This also indicates the IS is working.

thanks for all the tips . yeah there is a whirring sound.
i realised my pics were blr at nite even when the IS was on. i had set the iso to 100. bmped it to 1600 and all seems good. |

What do you mean by this? I think maybe too little light for the AF module to work, either try manual focus or fire your onboard flash's AF assist beam. hehe. |

The IS in the 28-135 is approximately 2 stops. Good enough to compensate for slight camera shake but not a miracle worker. Your lens hunts at night and in low light because the aperture (even at wide open) is not big enough. IS will not completely eliminate blur photos from camera shake/longer shutter speeds.
