wow nice a350 pricelist u got..
but compared to a200 still quite cheaper isnt it? take this one as example DSLR-A350 +(18-70mm) + grip VG-B30AM + AMFM11 + STP-SS2AM +PCK-LS3AM HK$6490 S$1190++ A200 + 18-70 + 4GB + Voucher $100 SG$1100 so with around $100 top up from A200, one can get A350 14mp(afaik) with LV + VG although minus 4gb memory and $100 voucher.. dunno warranty apply in sg, or not.. |

Quoting from the Sony website:
"Smart Teleconverter 2X Zoom At the touch of a button you can zoom in electronically on your subject, reproducing pixels on a 1:1 basis with no degradation in picture quality. One touch zooms in at 1.4X, the second touch advances to 2X zoom -- creating the 35mm equivalent of a 200mm telephoto effect with the DSLR-A350’s standard 18-70mm zoom lens." Wondering how it works, its electronic zoom yet no degradation? Or do they mean its a simple crop at center of sensor? |

Crop using live view I'd say.

Yes it is... it's pointless.. it's just a build-in CROP.
made me amazed for a moment before I found that out %(&#%&#(*&%*($^ |

don't think it's pointless... it is definitely very useful for manual focus!
simple.. if the live view CCD has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and the display can support 320 x 240 pixels (or 230k dots), then 75% of the pixel information is lost when it is resized for display on the LCD. So if you turn on 'smart zoom', the live view CCD crops the centre 320 x 240 pixels for display, you get 1:1 pixels with no degradation in picture quality! It's a simple yet effective way for doing manual focus on the screen. Now if they put a 1.22 mp live view CCD sensor, you can get 4 x smart zoom with no degradation in picture quality, so on and so forth. Of course, the best scenario for manual focus is to use your main sensor for live view so you can do a 10 x smart zoom or more to do your manual focus. I'm still curious how they work out the DOF issues when framing with the smaller live view CCD. Note, the A300/350 is a 3:2 sensor and the example I given is based on 4:3 ratio. |

No doubt it would be useful for manual focusing especially with prime lens. But seriously, Sony has some serious marketing skills, a simple crop becomes "Smart Teleconverter 2X Zoom with 200mm telephoto effect on 18-70mm zoom lens" ![]() |
